| 1 | 亞伯蘭妻撒萊不育、有埃及婢名夏甲、 | Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. |
| 2 | 撒萊謂亞伯蘭曰、耶和華禁我生育、請爾與我婢同室、我或可因之得子、亞伯蘭從其言、 | And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. |
| 3 | 其妻撒萊、納埃及婢夏甲於夫亞伯蘭、時、亞伯蘭居迦南、已歷十年、 | And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. |
| 4 | 遂與夏甲同室、夏甲懷孕、自覺有姙、藐視主母、 | And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. |
| 5 | 撒萊謂亞伯蘭曰、我寃在爾、以婢置於爾懷、彼覺有姙、乃藐視我、願耶和華於爾我間判之、 | And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee. |
| 6 | 亞伯蘭曰、婢爲爾所治、可任意以待、於是撒萊虐遇之、夏甲逃避焉、 | But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face. |
| 7 | 耶和華之使者見之於野、在書珥路之泉旁、 | And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. |
| 8 | 曰、撒萊婢夏甲、適從何來、茲欲何往、曰、逃避主母撒萊、 | And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. |
| 9 | 曰、宜歸主母、服於其下、 | And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. |
| 10 | 又曰、我必使爾苗裔繁衍、不可勝數、 | And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. |
| 11 | 又曰、爾今懷姙、必生男子、可命名以實瑪利、蓋耶和華已聞爾苦也、 | And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction. |
| 12 | 彼於人中、將爲野驢、擊衆而衆亦擊之、其所居之地、在同族之東、 | And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. |
| 13 | 夏甲蒙耶和華諭、則稱其名曰監人之上帝、蓋曰、我豈於此、瞻仰夫監我者乎、 | And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? |
| 14 | 故其泉名曰庇耳拉海萊、卽在加低斯巴列之間、 | Wherefore the well was called Beer–lahai–roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. |
| 15 | 夏甲生子、亞伯蘭命名以實瑪利、○ | And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael. |
| 16 | 夏甲生以實瑪利時、亞伯蘭年八十有六、 | And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram. |
