1 詐僞之衡、爲耶和華所惡、公平之石、爲其所悅、 A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.
2 驕矜旣至、恥辱亦至、惟謙卑者、智慧與俱、 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
3 正直者、其眞誠必導之、奸詐者、其乖戾必敗之、 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
4 震怒之日、資財無益、惟義拯人於死、 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
5 完人之義、平直其途、惡者因己惡而顚覆、 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
6 正直者、其義必救之、奸詐者、其惡必陷之、 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
7 惡人旣死、所冀俱絕、罪人之望、歸於烏有、 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.
8 義者得脫於難、惡者從而代之、 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
9 不虔者以口舌害鄰里、惟義人因知識得救援、 An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
10 義者亨通、舉邑欣悅、惡者淪喪、歡聲沸騰、 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11 維彼城邑、以正直者之祝而振興、因邪惡者之口而傾覆、 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
12 蔑鄰者無知、通達者緘口、 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
13 佚遊閑談者、發人陰私、中心誠慤者、隱人情事、 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
14 無智謀、民必仆、多議士、民乃安、 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
15 爲人作保、必遭挫折、憎惡拊掌、乃獲安康、 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
16 淑女得尊榮、強男得財貨、 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
17 仁慈者益己命、殘刻者害厥身、 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
18 作惡者、其值乃虛、播義者、其賚有定、 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
19 恆於義者必得生、從乎惡者必致死、 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
20 其心乖戾者、爲耶和華所惡、其行完全者、爲其所悅、 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
21 惡人雖則連手、不免受刑、義者後裔蒙救、 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
22 女美而不精明、如金環貫豕鼻、 As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
23 義者所欲、無非善良、惡者之望、終干震怒、 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
24 有博施而益增加、有過吝而致貧乏、 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
25 好施濟者、必得豐腴、潤澤人者、必受潤澤、 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
26 閉糴者、民必詛之、糶穀者、福加其首、 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
27 勤求善者、必獲恩寵、惟求惡者、惡必及之、 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
28 恃財者必至傾覆、行義者茂如青葉、 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
29 擾己家者、所得惟風、愚人爲慧心者之役、 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
30 義者結果、有若生命之樹、智者乃有得人之能、 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
31 義者在世、且受其報、況惡人罪人乎、 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
