1 所羅門之箴言、○智子令父喜樂、愚子爲母憂戚、 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2 積財非義、無所裨益、惟義拯人於死、 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3 耶和華不任義者受餒、不使惡者遂欲、 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4 手惰者致貧、手勤者致富、 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 夏時而斂者乃智子、穡時而寢者乃辱子、 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6 福祉臨於義者之首、殘暴藏於惡者之口、 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 義者之誌得頌、惡者之名必朽、 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 心慧者必受命令、口愚者必致傾覆、 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9 履正直者、其行穩固、從邪曲者、必致敗露、 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 以目示意、必生憂患、口愚之輩、必致傾覆、 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11 義者之口、乃生命之源、惡者之口、乃殘暴所藏、 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 憾恨啟釁隙、仁愛蓋罪愆、 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 具明哲者、口有智慧、乏知識者、背受杖責、 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 智人積存知識、愚者之口、臨於敗亡、 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 富人之貨財、爲其堅城之衞、貧者之窮乏、乃其敗亡之由、 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 義者之勞力乃致生、惡者之出產乃致罪、 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 守訓誨者、履於生路、違斥責者、迷於歧途、 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
18 匿怨者口言誑、讒謗者爲愚人、 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 多言難免咎戾、緘口乃爲明智、 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 義者之舌、有如佳銀、惡者之心、所值無幾、 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 義者之脣、以育衆庶、愚者乏識、陷於死亡、 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22 耶和華之錫嘏、令人富厚、不加憂傷、 The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
23 愚蠢者戲行邪惡、明哲者乃樂智慧、 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 惡者所懼必臨之、義者所欲必允之、 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 狂風驟過、惡者烏有、惟彼義者、其基永存、 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 怠惰之流、於使之者、如醯在齒、如煙在目、 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
27 寅畏耶和華、必益其壽命、惟彼惡者、必夭其天年、 The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 義人之望、必致喜樂、惡者之冀、必至敗亡、 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 耶和華之道、於正直者爲保障、於作惡者爲毀滅、 The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 義者永不遷移、惡者不得居於地上、 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 義者之口、乃生智慧、乖謬之舌、必被斷絕、 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 義者之脣、知所悅人、惡者之口、惟出乖謬、 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
