1 逾越節前、耶穌知離世歸父時至、旣愛在世之屬己者、終亦愛之、 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 席間、魔旣以賣耶穌之意、置於西門子加畧人猶大之心、 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;
3 耶穌知父已畀萬物於其手、且知其出於上帝、歸於上帝、 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 遂離席解衣、取巾自束、 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 注水於盤、濯門徒足、以所束之巾拭之、 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 比及西門彼得、彼得曰、主、濯我足乎、 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 耶穌曰、我所爲者、爾今不識、後則知之、 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 彼得曰、爾終毋濯我足、曰、我不爾濯、爾則與我無與、 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 西門彼得曰、主、不止我足、卽我手與首、亦然、 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 耶穌曰、旣浴者、祇須濯足、則全潔矣、爾曹乃潔、但不盡然耳、 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 蓋耶穌知將賣己者爲誰、故曰、不盡潔也、○ For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 濯畢、衣而復坐、曰、我所行者、爾知之乎、 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 爾稱我爲師、爲主、爾之言然、蓋我是也、 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 我爲主、爲師、猶濯爾足、則爾曹亦宜相濯足也、 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 蓋我以模楷示爾、使爾如我所行而行焉、 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 我誠語汝、僕不大於主、使者不大於使之者、 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 爾若知此而行之、則福矣、 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 我言非槪指爾衆、我所選者我知之、但使經得驗、同我食餅者、舉踵敵我也、 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 今事未成、我先告爾、俾及旣成、可信我爲基督、 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20 我誠語汝、接我所遣者、卽接我、接我者、卽接遣我者也、○ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
21 耶穌言此、心則憂忡、證曰、我誠語汝、爾中一人將賣我矣、 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 門徒相視、不知所言者誰、 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 有一爲耶穌所愛者、適倚其懷、 Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 西門彼得頷示之、蓋謂告我儕所言者誰也、 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 乃依耶穌胸問曰、主、誰歟、 He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 耶穌曰、我濡片食而予之者是也、遂濡片食、予西門子加畧人猶大、 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 猶大受片食後、撒但入之、耶穌語之曰、爾所爲者速爲之、 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 同席者、無人知其何以言此、 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 或意因猶大職橐、使市節筵所需、抑使濟貧也、 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 猶大受片食亟出、時已夜矣、○ He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
31 旣出、耶穌曰、今也人子榮、上帝亦因之而榮、 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 上帝將於己榮之、且速榮之、 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33 小子乎、我尚暫偕爾、爾將尋我、昔我語猶太人、我所往、爾不能至、今亦如是語爾也、 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
34 我以新誡予爾、令爾相愛、如我愛爾、爾亦相愛也、 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 爾若相愛、則人皆識爾爲我徒也、○ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36 西門彼得曰、主何往、耶穌曰、我所往、爾今不能從、後將從之、 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 彼得曰、主、今何不能從爾乎、我欲爲爾捐生、 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 耶穌曰、爾爲我捐生乎、我誠語汝、鷄尚未鳴、爾將三言不識我矣、 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
