| 1 | 猶大王約西亞子約雅敬四年、耶和華諭耶利米曰、 | And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, |
| 2 | 爾取一卷、以我自約西亞時、迄於今日、責以色列猶大、及諸國、所諭爾之言、書於其上、 | Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. |
| 3 | 庶猶大家得聞我所欲降之災、則各轉離惡途、致我赦其愆尤罪戾、 | It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. |
| 4 | 耶利米遂召尼利亞子巴錄至、巴錄以耶利米口傳耶和華所諭之言、書之於卷、 | Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. |
| 5 | 耶利米命巴錄曰、我被幽禁、不能詣耶和華室、 | And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord: |
| 6 | 爾往、以我口所傳、爾所書於卷之耶和華言、在耶和華室、於禁食之期誦之、俾民聞之、亦使自猶大諸邑而來之人聞之、 | Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord’s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. |
| 7 | 庶斯民在耶和華前祈禱、各轉離其惡途、蓋耶和華所言加於斯民之忿怒甚大也、 | It may be they will present their supplication before the Lord, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the Lord hath pronounced against this people. |
| 8 | 尼利亞子巴錄、循先知耶利米所命、在耶和華室、誦卷中耶和華之言、○ | And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the Lord in the Lord’s house. |
| 9 | 猶大王約西亞子約雅敬五年九月、耶路撒冷居民、及自猶大諸邑、至耶路撒冷之衆、宣告禁食於耶和華前、 | And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem. |
| 10 | 巴錄在耶和華室、上院新門之場、沙番子繕寫基瑪利雅之屋、誦卷中耶利米之言、俾衆聞之、 | Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the Lord’s house, in the ears of all the people. |
| 11 | 沙番孫、基瑪利雅子米該亞、旣聞卷中耶和華之言、 | When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the Lord, |
| 12 | 則詣王宮、入繕寫之屋、見諸牧伯、卽繕寫以利沙瑪、示瑪雅子第萊雅、亞革波子以利拿單、沙番子基瑪利雅、哈拿尼雅子西底家、所有牧伯、咸坐於彼、 | Then he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. |
| 13 | 米該亞以在巴錄誦卷時、所聞之言、悉告之、 | Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. |
| 14 | 諸牧伯遣古示曾孫、示利米雅孫、尼探雅子猶底、詣巴錄曰、攜爾所誦、俾民聽聞之卷而至、尼利亞子巴錄、遂攜卷而至、 | Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them. |
| 15 | 衆語之曰、坐而誦之、俾我聞焉、巴錄誦之使聞、 | And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. |
| 16 | 衆聞斯言、則懼、轉而相視、語巴錄曰、我必以斯言告王、 | Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. |
| 17 | 又問巴錄曰、爾若何由其口而書此言、請以告我、 | And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? |
| 18 | 巴錄曰、彼以口述於我、我以墨書於卷也、 | Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. |
| 19 | 牧伯謂巴錄曰、爾與耶利米宜往匿、毋令人知爾所在、 | Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be. |
| 20 | 牧伯藏其卷於繕寫以利沙瑪之屋、入院見王、悉述斯言、使王聽之、 | And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king. |
| 21 | 王遣猶底往取其卷、遂自繕寫以利沙瑪屋、取之而至、誦之、使王及侍側之牧伯聞之、 | So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. |
| 22 | 時維九月、王坐禦寒之室、有爐爇於其前、 | Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. |
| 23 | 猶底誦竟三四篇、王以書刀割之、投諸爐火、迨卷盡焚、 | And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. |
| 24 | 王及臣僕雖聞斯言、不畏懼、不裂衣、 | Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. |
| 25 | 且以利拿單、第萊雅、基瑪利雅求王、勿焚其卷、而王弗聽、 | Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them. |
| 26 | 王命王子耶拉篾、與亞斯列子西萊亞、亞伯疊子示利米雅、執繕寫巴錄、及先知耶利米、然耶和華匿之、○ | But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the Lord hid them. |
| 27 | 王旣焚卷、上有巴錄由耶利米口所書之言、耶和華諭耶利米曰、 | Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, |
| 28 | 復取一卷、以猶大王約雅敬所焚前卷之言、書於其上、 | Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. |
| 29 | 且論猶大王約雅敬曰、耶和華云、爾焚其卷曰、汝奚錄於上云、巴比倫王必至、毀滅斯土、使其人畜俱泯、 | And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the Lord; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? |
| 30 | 故耶和華論猶大王約雅敬曰、彼必無人坐大衞之位、其屍被擲於外、晝受暑、夜經霜、 | Therefore thus saith the Lord of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. |
| 31 | 我必因其罪愆罰之、與其子孫臣僕、降所言之災於彼、及耶路撒冷居民、猶大之衆、而彼不聽、 | And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not. |
| 32 | 耶利米復取一卷、畀尼利亞子繕寫巴錄、彼由耶利米口、以猶大王約雅敬所焚前卷之言、書於其上、又增多詞、其義相同、 | Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words. |
