1 猶大王亞哈謝子約阿施二十三年、耶戶子約哈斯卽位、在撒瑪利亞爲以色列王、歷十七年、 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
2 行耶和華所惡、從尼八子耶羅波安陷以色列人之罪、不離棄之、 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
3 耶和華遂怒以色列人、常付之於亞蘭王哈薛、及其子便哈達之手、 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben–hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4 約哈斯懇求耶和華、耶和華垂聽、因見以色列人受亞蘭王之虐也、 And Jehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 耶和華賜救者於以色列人、俾脫亞蘭人手、居於其幕如故、 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6 然不離棄耶羅波安家之罪、卽陷以色列人之罪、從之而行、留木偶於撒瑪利亞、 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
7 亞蘭王殲滅約哈斯之民、蹂躪之如禾場之土、惟遺騎兵五十、戰車十乘、步卒一萬、 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.
8 約哈斯其餘事蹟、凡其所行、與其勇力、俱載於以色列列王紀、 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9 約哈斯與列祖偕眠、葬於撒瑪利亞、子約阿施嗣位、○ And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.
10 猶大王約阿施三十七年、約哈斯子約阿施卽位、在撒瑪利亞爲以色列王、歷十六年、 In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
11 行耶和華所惡、不離棄尼八子耶羅波安陷以色列人之罪、從之而行、 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.
12 約阿施其餘事蹟、凡其所行、及與猶大王亞瑪謝戰鬬之勇力、俱載於以色列列王紀、 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
13 約阿施與列祖偕眠、同以色列諸王葬於撒瑪利亞、耶羅波安踐其位、○ And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 初、以利沙遘致死之疾、以色列王約阿施下而詣之、俯於其面而哭、曰、我父歟、我父歟、以色列之車騎也、 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
15 以利沙曰、取弓與矢、王遂取之、 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
16 又曰、以手執弓、遂執之、以利沙按手於王手、 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.
17 曰、啟東牖、遂啟之、以利沙曰、射、遂射、以利沙曰、是耶和華獲勝之矢、卽勝亞蘭之矢、蓋爾必在亞弗、擊亞蘭人、至於盡滅、 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
18 又曰、取矢、遂取之、曰、擊地、乃三擊而止、 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19 上帝僕怒之曰、爾宜擊地五六次、則必擊亞蘭人、至於盡滅、今擊之僅三次而已、○ And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20 以利沙卒而葬、歲首摩押軍旅犯境、 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 適有人葬死者、見軍旅至、則投屍於以利沙墓、屍觸以利沙之骨、則甦而立、○ And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22 約哈斯在位時、亞蘭王哈薛恆虐以色列人、 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 惟耶和華因與亞伯拉罕以撒雅各所立之約、施恩矜恤之、眷顧之、尚不滅之、不逐之於其前、 And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24 亞蘭王哈薛卒、子便哈達嗣位、 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben–hadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 昔哈薛與約阿施父約哈斯戰、取其數邑、今約阿施三擊哈薛子便哈達、恢復以色列邑、 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben–hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
