1 亞哈有子七十、在撒瑪利亞、耶戶作書、寄撒瑪利亞、致耶斯列之首領卽長老、及教育亞哈諸子者、 And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,
2 曰、爾主之子偕爾、亦有車馬、器械堅城、 Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3 爾接此書、可擇爾主衆子中、賢而適宜者、俾踐其父之位、而爲爾主之家戰爭、 Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4 彼衆懼甚、曰、二王不能禦之、我儕何能禦乎、 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5 家宰邑宰長老、及教育亞哈子者、遣人詣耶戶曰、我爲爾僕、凡所命者、我必行之、我不立人爲王、爾視爲善者則行之、 And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6 耶戶復致書曰、爾若爲我、聽從我言、明日此時、攜爾主衆子之首、至耶斯列見我、時、王子七十人、與邑中顯貴教育之者偕居、 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7 書至、遂執王子七十人殺之、盛首於筐、送至耶斯列耶戶所、 And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8 或告耶戶曰、彼攜王子之首而至、耶戶曰、列爲二堆、在於邑門、至於明旦、 And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9 詰朝、耶戶出、立而告衆曰、爾曹皆義、我叛我主而弒之、惟殺此衆者爲誰、 And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10 可知耶和華論亞哈家所言、無一或失、蓋耶和華藉其僕以利亞所言、今悉成焉、 Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11 凡在耶斯列、亞哈家所遺者、及其大臣、密友祭司、耶戶盡殺之、靡有孑遺、 So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12 遂起、往撒瑪利亞、途間至剪羊所、 And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13 遇猶大王亞哈謝之昆弟、問之曰、爾爲誰、曰、我乃亞哈謝昆弟、今往問王與太后之子安、 Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14 耶戶命曰、生擒之、遂生擒之、戮於剪羊所之阬側、四十二人、靡有孑遺、○ And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15 耶戶離彼而往、遇利甲子約拿達來迎、乃問其安曰、爾心正直向我、如我心之正直向爾乎、約拿達曰、然、曰、如是、則與我攜手、遂與攜手、耶戶挽之登車、 And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16 曰、與我偕往、視我爲耶和華之熱中、乃使之乘車、 And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17 旣至撒瑪利亞、則殺亞哈家所遺者、至於盡滅、如耶和華語以利亞之言、○ And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18 耶戶集民衆、謂之曰、亞哈奉事巴力猶少、耶戶將事之加多焉、 And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19 今我欲獻大祭於巴力、當召巴力之衆先知、與崇拜巴力者、及其祭司、使悉詣我、勿遺一人、凡不至者、必不得生、耶戶言此、乃施詭計、欲滅崇拜巴力之人耳、 Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20 耶戶曰、當爲巴力特設肅會、遂宣告焉、 And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21 耶戶遣人徧行以色列境、凡崇拜巴力者咸至、不遺一人、入巴力廟、充塞其間、 And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22 耶戶命掌禮服者曰、取禮服、予崇拜巴力者衣之、遂取而予之、 And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23 耶戶與利甲子約拿達、入巴力廟、謂崇拜巴力者曰、試觀察之、免有耶和華之僕在爾中、惟崇拜巴力者而已、 And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24 乃入獻燔祭與他祭、耶戶預置八十人於廟外、告之曰、我所付於爾手者、若遁其一、縱之去者、必以己命代之、 And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25 獻燔祭畢、耶戶命衞士及諸軍長曰、入而殺之、勿容一人出、衞士及軍長遂以刃殺之、擲屍於外、而往巴力廟之邑、 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26 取廟中之柱像、出而焚之、 And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27 毀巴力之柱像、摧其廟以爲廁、迄於今日、 And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28 如是耶戶滅巴力於以色列中、 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29 惟不離棄尼八子耶羅波安陷以色列人之罪、卽在伯特利與但之金犢、 Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth–el, and that were in Dan.
30 耶和華諭耶戶曰、因爾行我所視爲善者、依我心意、待亞哈家、爾之子孫必居以色列國位、歷至四世、 And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31 然耶戶不專心注意、遵行以色列上帝耶和華之法律、不離棄耶羅波安陷以色列人之罪、○ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32 當時耶和華始割裂以色列、哈薛擊其四境、 In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33 卽約但東、基列全地、自亞嫩溪之亞羅珥、擊迦得流便瑪拿西人之地、基列與巴珊、 From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34 耶戶其餘事蹟、凡其所行、與其勇力、俱載於以色列列王紀、 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35 耶戶與列祖偕眠、葬於撒瑪利亞、子約哈斯嗣位、 And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36 耶戶在撒瑪利亞爲以色列王、凡二十有八年、 And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
