1 約西亞卽位時、年八歲、在耶路撒冷爲王、歷三十有一年、 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2 行耶和華所悅、循其祖大衞之道、不偏左右、 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3 在位之八年、尚幼冲、始求其祖大衞之上帝、十二年、始潔猶大及耶路撒冷、除其崇邱木偶、雕像鑄像、 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
4 民於其前毀巴力之壇、斫其上之日像、碎其木偶、雕像鑄像、搗之成粉、揚於祭者之塚、 And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
5 焚其祭司之骨於壇、而潔猶大及耶路撒冷、 And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
6 在瑪拿西、以法蓮、西緬、延及拿弗他利諸邑、與四周荒址、亦如是而行、 And so did he in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their mattocks round about.
7 毀諸壇、碎木偶及雕像、搗之成粉、斫以色列遍地之日像、乃返耶路撒冷、○ And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
8 約西亞十八年、旣潔地與殿、遣雅薩利雅子沙番、邑宰瑪西雅、繕寫約哈斯子約亞、修其上帝耶和華室、 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
9 其人遂詣大祭司希勒家、以奉於上帝室之金付之、此金乃司閽之利未人、自瑪拿西人、以法蓮人、以色列遺民、猶大與便雅憫衆、及耶路撒冷居民、所收集者、 And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.
10 乃付於督耶和華室之工作者、轉予工匠、用以修室、 And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the Lord, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the Lord, to repair and amend the house:
11 卽予木工瓦工、購鑿成之石、與架木棟梁、以修猶大列王所毀之屋、 Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12 其人誠實操作、利未人、米拉利裔、雅哈俄巴底監督之、哥轄裔、撒迦利亞米書蘭、及善用樂器之利未人催督之、 And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.
13 兼轄負荷者、催督各等工役、亦有利未人爲繕寫、爲司事、爲閽人、 Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.
14 奉於耶和華室之金運出時、祭司希勒家得耶和華之律書、卽摩西所傳者、 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the Lord given by Moses.
15 希勒家謂繕寫沙番曰、我於耶和華室得律書、乃以書授之、 And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
16 沙番攜書詣王、復命曰、凡所命爾僕者、僕悉行之、 And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
17 且以耶和華室所得之金、傾而出之、付於督工與匠人之手、 And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.
18 又告王曰、祭司希勒家授我一書、遂讀於王前、 Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
19 王聞法律之言、自裂其衣、 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
20 命希勒家、沙番子亞希甘、米迦子亞比頓、繕寫沙番、及王侍臣亞撒雅曰、 And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
21 汝其往哉、爲我與以色列及猶大之遺民、以此書之言、詢於耶和華、因我列祖不守耶和華之言、不遵此書所載而行、故耶和華向我、洩忿甚烈、 Go, enquire of the Lord for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do after all that is written in this book.
22 有女先知戶勒大、乃哈斯拉孫、特瓦子、掌禮服者沙龍之妻也、居耶路撒冷之二區、希勒家及王所命者往見、告以斯事、 And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake to her to that effect.
23 戶勒大謂之曰、以色列之上帝耶和華云、其告遣爾詣我者曰、 And she answered them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Tell ye the man that sent you to me,
24 耶和華云、我必降災於此處、及其居民、卽讀於猶大王前之書、所載諸詛、 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
25 蓋彼衆棄我、焚香於他神、以其手所爲、激我之怒、故我洩忿於此而不止、 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be quenched.
26 惟猶大王遣爾詢於耶和華、當告之曰、以色列之上帝耶和華云、論爾所聞之言、 And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the Lord, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;
27 爾聞我指此地、與其居民所言、乃中心柔順、自卑於上帝前、裂衣哭泣、我俞允爾、耶和華言之矣、 Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the Lord.
28 我必使爾安然入墓、歸爾列祖、我將降於此地、及其居民之災、爾不目擊、使者復命於王、○ Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
29 王遣人集猶大及耶路撒冷諸長老、 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30 王與猶大人、耶路撒冷居民、祭司利未人、及所有民衆、無論長幼、咸上耶和華室、王誦耶和華室中、所得約書之言、俾衆聽聞、 And the king went up into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the Lord.
31 王立其所、在耶和華前立約、一心一意順從耶和華、守其誡命、法度典章、以成約書所載之言、 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
32 命在耶路撒冷及便雅憫人衆、咸韙此約、於是耶路撒冷居民、遵其列祖之上帝之約而行、 And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33 約西亞於以色列所屬各地、除其可憎之物、使凡在以色列者、奉事其上帝耶和華、約西亞存日、民衆從其列祖之上帝耶和華、不離棄之、 And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the Lord their God. And all his days they departed not from following the Lord, the God of their fathers.
