| 1 | 以法蓮山地之拉瑪瑣非、有以法蓮人以利加拿者、乃蘇弗玄孫、託戶曾孫、以利戶孫、耶羅罕子也、 | Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim–zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite: |
| 2 | 有二妻、一名哈拿、一名毘尼拿、毘尼拿有子、哈拿無子、 | And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. |
| 3 | 以利加拿歲由其邑上示羅、崇拜祭祀萬軍之耶和華、以利二子、何弗尼非尼哈在彼、爲耶和華祭司、 | And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. |
| 4 | 以利加拿獻祭之日、頒胙於妻毘尼拿、及其子女、 | And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: |
| 5 | 因愛哈拿、頒之維倍、然耶和華禁其產育、 | But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb. |
| 6 | 其敵毘尼拿激之使憂、以耶和華禁其產育也、 | And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb. |
| 7 | 歲往耶和華室時、其夫如是待之、毘尼拿仍激之、致其哭而不食、 | And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. |
| 8 | 其夫以利加拿謂之曰、哈拿、奚爲哭而不食、中心愀然哉、我之於爾、非愈於十子乎、 | Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons? |
| 9 | 衆在示羅、飲食旣畢、哈拿興、時、祭司以利坐其座、在耶和華殿之橛旁、 | So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord. |
| 10 | 哈拿中懷憂戚、禱於耶和華而痛哭、 | And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. |
| 11 | 許願曰、萬軍之耶和華歟、如爾垂顧婢苦、憶我弗忘、賜婢生男、則必奉之耶和華、至於畢生、薙髮之刀、不加其首、 | And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. |
| 12 | 哈拿在耶和華前、祈禱不輟、以利注目觀其口、 | And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli marked her mouth. |
| 13 | 夫哈拿中心默語、脣動而聲不聞、以利以爲醉、 | Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. |
| 14 | 曰、爾醉將至何時、其戒爾酒、 | And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee. |
| 15 | 哈拿曰、我主歟、非也、我乃憂心之婦、清酒醇醪不飲、惟於耶和華前傾我衷懷、 | And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. |
| 16 | 勿以婢爲惡女、我言迄今、由於寃抑憤激、 | Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. |
| 17 | 以利曰、爾可安然而歸、願以色列之上帝允爾所祈、 | Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. |
| 18 | 婦曰、願沾爾恩、遂往而食、不復有憂容、 | And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad. |
| 19 | 舉家夙興、拜於耶和華前、乃返拉瑪、而歸其家、以利加拿與妻哈拿同室、耶和華垂念之、 | And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her. |
| 20 | 哈拿懷姙、屆期生子、命名撒母耳、曰、我由耶和華而求之、 | Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the Lord. |
| 21 | 以利加拿與其全家、往獻歲祭於耶和華、而償其願、 | And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. |
| 22 | 惟哈拿不往、謂其夫曰、俟子斷乳、我將攜之覲耶和華、使恆居其所、 | But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and there abide for ever. |
| 23 | 以利加拿曰、爾視爲善者則行之、待子斷乳可也、惟願耶和華踐其言、婦遂居家哺子、迨及斷乳、 | And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the Lord establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him. |
| 24 | 乳旣斷、婦攜之往、亦牽牡牛三、麪一伊法、酒一革囊、至示羅、詣耶和華室、時子尚幼、 | And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the Lord in Shiloh: and the child was young. |
| 25 | 遂宰一牛、攜子詣以利、 | And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli. |
| 26 | 曰、我主歟、我指爾生命以誓、昔在此立於爾側、禱於耶和華之婦、卽我也、 | And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord. |
| 27 | 我爲此子而禱、耶和華允我所求、 | For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: |
| 28 | 我奉之耶和華、使其歸耶和華、至於畢生、遂在彼崇拜耶和華、 | Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there. |
