1 波阿斯至邑門而坐、見其所言宜贖產者過焉、則呼之曰、某歟、請離途、坐於此、遂離途而坐、 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
2 乃簡邑之長老十人、謂曰、請坐於此、遂坐、 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.
3 語宜贖產者曰、自摩押而歸之拿俄米、將鬻我昆弟以利米勒之田、 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s:
4 我意告爾、於坐此者、及我民之長老前、爾其購之、當贖之者乃爾、其次則我、別無他人、如爾欲贖、則贖之、不然、明白告我、其人曰、我欲贖之、 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
5 波阿斯曰、爾由拿俄米手贖田之日、亦由死者之婦、摩押女路得而購之、俾承其業、以繼死者之名、 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
6 宜贖產者曰、我不能爲己贖之、恐害我業、贖產之權、請爾操之、蓋我不能贖也、 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.
7 昔在以色列中、凡贖物易物、欲定其事者、必解其履、以予鄰里、此以色列人爲據之例也、 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
8 故宜贖產者謂波阿斯曰、汝其購之、則解其履、 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.
9 波阿斯謂長老與民衆曰、凡屬以利米勒、及基連瑪倫之業、我由拿俄米手購之、今日汝衆爲證、 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.
10 更購瑪倫妻摩押女路得爲妻、俾承其業、以繼死者之名、免其名絕於昆弟、及故鄉之門、汝衆爲證、 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
11 在邑門之衆、與諸長老曰、我儕爲證、願耶和華使適爾家之婦、如拉結利亞、肇造以色列家者、亦願爾稱豪於以法他、得名於伯利恆、 And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Beth–lehem:
12 願爾之家、由耶和華賜此少婦之子成立、如他瑪從猶大所生法勒斯之家、 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman.
13 波阿斯遂娶路得、與之同室、耶和華賜之懷姙生子、 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bare a son.
14 衆婦謂拿俄米曰、當頌美那和華、今日使爾不缺親屬、願此子得名於以色列中、 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.
15 彼必使爾振興、供養爾於老年、彼爲愛爾之媳所生、此媳於爾、較七子尤善、 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
16 拿俄米取子、抱之於懷、爲其阿保、 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
17 鄰婦曰、拿俄米得子矣、乃名之曰俄備得、俄備得爲耶西父、耶西爲大衞父、○ And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 法勒斯之世胄如左、法勒斯生希斯倫、 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,
19 希斯倫生蘭、蘭生亞米拿達、 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
20 亞米拿達生拿順、拿順生撒門、 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,
21 撒門生波阿斯、波阿斯生俄備得、 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
22 俄備得生耶西、耶西生大衞、 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
