1 該撒利亞有哥尼流者、義大利營之百夫長也、 There was a certain man in Cesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 其人敬虔、舉家寅畏上帝、博施於民、恆於祈禱、 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3 日約申初、於異象中、明見上帝使入而語之曰、哥尼流、 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 哥尼流注視之、驚曰、主、何爲、曰、爾之祈禱施濟、已達於上帝前、而爲之記矣、 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 今當遣人往約帕、請西門稱彼得者、 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 彼寓於皮工西門、厥家瀕海、 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 與言之使旣去、哥尼流召二僕、與侍卒之敬虔者一人、 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 悉以其事述之、遣往約帕、○ And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 翌日、行將近邑、時約午正、彼得乘屋祈禱、 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 飢欲食、人方具餐、神遊象外、 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 見天開、有器下降、如大布、繫四角縋地、 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 內有各類地上四足之獸、及昆蟲飛鳥、 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 有聲曰、彼得起、殺而食之、 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 曰、主、不然、俗物及不潔者、我未嘗食焉、 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 又有聲曰、上帝所潔者、勿以爲俗也、 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 如是者三、器卽上收於天、○ This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17 彼得中心猶豫、不知所見異象何意、而哥尼流所遣之人、適訪至西門家、立於門外、 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
18 呼而問曰、西門稱彼得者、寓此否、 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19 彼得尚思異象時、聖神謂之曰、有三人尋爾、 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 起而下、偕之往、勿疑、蓋我遣之來也、 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 彼得下、就其人曰、我卽爾所尋者、爾來何爲、 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22 曰、百夫長哥尼流、義人也、敬畏上帝、爲猶太舉國所譽、奉聖使之示、請爾至其家、欲聽爾言、 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23 遂延之入、止宿焉、翌日、起而偕往、約帕兄弟數人同行、 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24 又翌日、入該撒利亞、哥尼流豫集親族契友俟之、 And the morrow after they entered into Cesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25 彼得入時、哥尼流迎之、伏其足下而拜、 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 彼得援之、曰、起、我亦人也、 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27 與之語而入、見衆集、謂之曰、 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28 爾固知猶太人、與異邦人相親相近、非宜也、然上帝示我、勿視人爲俗、或不潔、 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29 故我見請、不辭而來、試問召我何意、 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30 哥尼流曰、前四日此時、我在室、守申初之祈禱、見一人衣服皎然、立於前、 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 曰、哥尼流、爾之祈禱已升聞、爾之施濟已記於上帝前、 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 當遣人至約帕、請西門稱彼得者、彼寓於海濱皮工西門家、 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33 故我卽遣人詣爾、爾來善矣、今我儕咸在上帝前、以聽主凡所命爾者、○ Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34 彼得啟口曰、我誠知上帝不以貌取人、 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 萬國中有畏之而行義者、皆爲其悅納也、 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 夫上帝藉耶穌基督、卽萬有之主、傳和平福音、以斯道授以色列裔、 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37 卽約翰傳洗禮後、自加利利始、徧揚於猶太、此爾所知也、 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 上帝以聖神與能、膏拿撒勒耶穌、彼周遊行善、醫凡爲魔所制者、蓋上帝偕之也、 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 其在猶太地、及耶路撒冷所行者、我儕爲證、人乃懸於木而殺之、 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 越三日、上帝起之、使之顯著、 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41 非於衆民、乃於上帝豫選爲證者、我儕是也、彼自死而起後、嘗同飲食、 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 彼命我儕宣傳於民、證上帝所定、以鞫生者死者、卽斯人也、 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43 諸先知亦爲之證、凡信之者、將由其名而得罪赦、○ To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 彼得言時、聖神臨於諸聽道者、 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 奉割禮之信徒、偕彼得而來者、因聖神之賜、亦注於異邦人、則皆駭異、 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 蓋聞其言諸方言、讚上帝爲大也、 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 彼得曰、斯人旣受聖神、如我儕然、以水與之施洗、孰能禁之、 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 遂命以耶穌基督名洗之、衆請彼得居數日焉、 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
