1 若於基督有何慰藉、於愛有何撫綏、於聖神有何感通、有何仁慈矜憫、 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 則宜同意同愛、心合志一、以充我樂、 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 槪勿樹黨、勿尚虛榮、惟自卑、視人愈於己、 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 勿各顧己事、亦宜顧人之事、 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 以基督耶穌之心爲心、 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 彼原有上帝之狀、不以匹上帝爲強取、 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 乃虛己取僕之狀、成人之形、 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 旣有人之式、又屈己、承順至死、甚而死於十架、 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 故上帝躋之至高、錫以超乎萬名之名、 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 使在天在地、及在地下者、聞耶穌之名、無膝不屈、 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 無口不稱耶穌基督爲主、以榮父上帝焉、○ And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 愛友乎、爾素承順、不惟於我同在時、卽今暌違、益宜畏懼戰慄、以成爾之救濟、 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 蓋爾之志與行、皆上帝循其善意、施於爾衷也、 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 爾凡所行、毋私議、毋爭辯、 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 俾爾純粹無疵、爲上帝子、無瑕於邪逆之世、顯爲燭世之光、 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
16 彰明維生之道、俾我可誇於基督之日、以我所趨所勞、非徒然也、 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
17 若以爾信之祭祀與供奉、我被灌奠其上、我亦樂之、且與爾衆同樂、 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.
18 爾亦當樂之、且與我同樂焉、○ For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.
19 我緣主耶穌、冀速遣提摩太就爾、俾知爾事、以慰我心、 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.
20 蓋我無同心之人、誠慮爾事、 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.
21 因衆皆惟己是謀、非耶穌基督之事也、 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.
22 爾知提摩太之徵驗、卽與我共役於福音、猶子之於父、 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
23 故視我事如何、冀卽遣之、 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
24 且我賴主、冀亦速往、 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.
25 但我意必遣以巴弗提就爾、彼乃我之兄弟、與我同勞同伍、爲爾之使、且供我所需者、 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
26 彼乃戀慕爾衆、因爾聞其病、則憂甚、 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.
27 彼果病瀕死、上帝恤之、不惟於彼、亦於我也、免我憂而復憂、 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
28 是以遣之愈切、使爾復見之而喜、我憂亦少解、 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
29 爾宜緣主欣然納之、且尊重如是之人、 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
30 蓋彼因基督之工而瀕死、不恤其生、以補爾事我之不逮、 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
