| 1 | 爲婦者宜服爾夫、或夫不從道、致外乎道、由婦所行、亦可得之、 | Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; |
| 2 | 蓋以見爾貞潔之行、及敬畏也、 | While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. |
| 3 | 爾之飾、毋在外、如辮髮、佩金、衣美衣、 | Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; |
| 4 | 乃在温柔恬靜之性、隱於心不可壞者、此在上帝前爲至寶、 | But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. |
| 5 | 古昔聖女、上帝是望、亦以是自飾、服於其夫、 | For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: |
| 6 | 如撒拉順從亞伯拉罕、稱之爲主、爾若行善、無所畏懼、則爲其女矣、○ | Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. |
| 7 | 爲夫者亦宜循理、與婦同居、視猶弱器、共承維生之恩、爾其尊之、免爾之祈禱有所阻也、○ | Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. |
| 8 | 要之、僉宜同心、體恤、友愛、慈憐、謙遜、 | Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: |
| 9 | 毋以惡報惡、以詬報詬、反爲祝嘏、蓋爾爲此見召、致可得福、 | Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. |
| 10 | 故曰、凡欲愛生命而見佳日者、宜禁其舌於惡、其口於譎、 | For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: |
| 11 | 避惡行善、求和平而追隨之、 | Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. |
| 12 | 蓋主目顧義人、耳聽其祈、惟主之面鑒彼惡人、 | For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. |
| 13 | 爾若熱衷爲善、害爾者其誰、 | And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? |
| 14 | 若因義受苦、則福矣、勿畏其威、勿爲所撼、 | But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; |
| 15 | 中心尊主基督爲聖、素備應對、以答凡詰爾衷所望之故者、惟宜温柔敬畏耳、 | But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: |
| 16 | 旣懷無虧之良、及受謗言、使誣爾宗基督之善行者、自覺羞愧、 | Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. |
| 17 | 若爲上帝之旨、則爾行善受苦、愈於行惡受苦矣、 | For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. |
| 18 | 蓋基督亦一次爲罪受苦、義者代不義者、以導我儕歸上帝、其身雖受死、其靈則見甦、 | For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: |
| 19 | 且以靈往而宣道於獄中諸靈、 | By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; |
| 20 | 卽昔之背逆者、上帝於挪亞備舟之日、忍以待之、當時由水得救者無幾、惟八人耳、 | Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. |
| 21 | 今之洗禮、乃其影像、以救爾曹、非去形軀之汚、惟求無虧之良於上帝前、乃因耶穌基督之復起也、 | The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: |
| 22 | 彼已升天、在上帝右、凡天使與有權有能者咸服之、 | Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. |
