| 1 | 基督旣以身受苦、爾亦宜以此志自衞、蓋受苦於身者、則與罪絕矣、 | Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; |
| 2 | 俾不再循人慾、惟循上帝之旨、以度餘年、 | That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. |
| 3 | 爾往時從異邦人之欲、而行邪侈、縱恣、沈湎、荒宴、般樂、及違理拜像之事、亦足矣、 | For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: |
| 4 | 彼見爾不同其流蕩無度、則異而謗之、 | Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: |
| 5 | 若輩必自陳於鞫生者死者之主、 | Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. |
| 6 | 是以福音曾宣於死者、使其身如人而受鞫、其靈依上帝而得生、○ | For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. |
| 7 | 夫萬物之終伊邇、故宜端正、節制而祈禱、 | But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. |
| 8 | 首要者、宜切心相愛、蓋愛蔽多罪、 | And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. |
| 9 | 互相接納而勿吝、 | Use hospitality one to another without grudging. |
| 10 | 各依所受恩賜以相施、如忠信之執事、司上帝鴻恩者、 | As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. |
| 11 | 或宣道、則依上帝之詔、或役事、則依上帝所賜之能、致上帝由耶穌基督凡事受榮、願榮與權歸之、爰及世世、阿們、○ | If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
| 12 | 愛友乎、若遇火煉之試、勿以爲不測而奇之、 | Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: |
| 13 | 爾旣與基督之苦、當以爲樂、俾於其榮顯著時、亦可歡欣踴躍、 | But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. |
| 14 | 若爲基督名而見詬、則福矣、蓋上帝有榮之神止於爾也、 | If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. |
| 15 | 爾中勿因兇殺、盜竊、惡行、妄豫、而受苦、 | But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. |
| 16 | 惟因爲基督徒而受苦、則毋愧、乃緣此名歸榮上帝也、 | Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. |
| 17 | 蓋時至則鞫自上帝之家始、若自我儕始、彼不服從上帝福音者、其終將何如哉、 | For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? |
| 18 | 若義者僅得救、則不虔不善者、將處於何地乎、 | And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? |
| 19 | 故循上帝旨而受苦者、宜以善行、託己靈於誠信造化之主也、 | Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. |
