| 1 | 正月以色列會衆至尋野、居於加低斯、米利暗死、葬於彼、 | Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. |
| 2 | 會衆無水、集攻摩西亞倫、 | And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. |
| 3 | 與摩西爭曰、昔我兄弟死於耶和華前、我儕甚願與之偕亡、 | And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord! |
| 4 | 曷導耶和華之會衆、至斯曠野、使我與牲畜悉死於此、 | And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? |
| 5 | 奚令我出埃及、至此惡地、無田可種、不產無花果、與葡萄石榴、亦無水可飲、 | And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. |
| 6 | 摩西亞倫離會衆、至會幕門俯伏、耶和華之榮光顯見、 | And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them. |
| 7 | 耶和華諭摩西曰、 | And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, |
| 8 | 爾其執杖、與汝兄亞倫集會衆、於其前命磐出水、必使水出於磐、遍飲會衆、及厥牲畜、 | Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. |
| 9 | 摩西遵命、取杖於耶和華前、 | And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him. |
| 10 | 與亞倫集會衆於磐前、摩西曰、爾叛逆之輩聽之、我爲爾取水於磐乎、 | And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? |
| 11 | 摩西舉杖擊磐者二、水卽汨汨其來、會衆羣畜共飲焉、 | And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. |
| 12 | 耶和華諭摩西亞倫曰、汝不我信、不尊我爲聖於以色列族前、不得導斯衆入我所賜之地、 | And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. |
| 13 | 以色列族與耶和華爭、致耶和華顯爲聖於其中、故斯水稱曰米利巴、○ | This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the Lord, and he was sanctified in them. |
| 14 | 摩西自加低斯遣使詣以東王曰、爾之兄弟以色列人云、我儕遭遇多艱、爾所知也、 | And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us: |
| 15 | 我祖往埃及、居彼日久、埃及人虐待我祖、爰及我儕、 | How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers: |
| 16 | 我呼籲耶和華、蒙其垂聽、遣使導我出埃及、今在加低斯、爾國之疆隅也、 | And when we cried unto the Lord, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border: |
| 17 | 請容我過爾地、我不越田畝、不入葡萄園、不飲井水、行由大道、不偏於左、不偏於右、以過爾境、 | Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders. |
| 18 | 以東人對曰、勿過我境、免我執刃、出而攻爾、 | And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword. |
| 19 | 以色列族曰、我行由大道、如我與牲畜飲爾之水、必償厥值、不圖其他、第欲徒行、以過爾境、 | And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet. |
| 20 | 曰、爾毋過焉、以東王率其羣衆、大力以禦之、 | And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand. |
| 21 | 如是以東不許以色列族過其境、以色列族遂轉離之、○ | Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him. |
| 22 | 以色列會衆自加低斯啟行、至何珥山、 | And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor. |
| 23 | 山在以東之邊隅、耶和華諭摩西亞倫曰、 | And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying, |
| 24 | 昔在米利巴水、爾曹逆我命、故亞倫必歸其祖、不得入我所賜以色列人之地、 | Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah. |
| 25 | 當攜亞倫及其子以利亞撒、陟何珥山、 | Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor: |
| 26 | 解亞倫之衣、以衣其子、亞倫必沒、 | And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there. |
| 27 | 摩西遵耶和華命而行、三人陟山、會衆目擊、 | And Moses did as the Lord commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. |
| 28 | 摩西解亞倫之衣、以衣其子、亞倫死於山巔、摩西以利亞撒乃下、 | And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount. |
| 29 | 以色列會衆見亞倫死、爲之哀哭三旬、 | And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel. |
