1 居南方之迦南人亞拉得王、聞以色列族由亞他林道而進、則與之戰、虜其數人、 And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
2 以色列族指耶和華許願曰、若以此民付於我手、我必盡滅其邑、 And Israel vowed a vow unto the Lord, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
3 耶和華應以色列族所求、以迦南人付之、遂盡滅厥衆、及其邑、故其地稱曰何珥瑪、○ And the Lord hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
4 以色列族自何珥山啟行、由紅海道、繞以東地、因路艱難、民心恇怯、 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5 怨上帝及摩西曰、奚導我出埃及、使死於野、無糧無水、所食淡薄、我心厭之、 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
6 耶和華遣火蛇、入民中嚙之、以色列族多死亡者、 And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7 民就摩西曰、我怨耶和華及爾、干厥罪戾、請祈耶和華、爲我驅蛇、摩西爲之祈、 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee; pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8 耶和華諭摩西曰、爾造火蛇之象、懸之於竿、被嚙者望之而得生、 And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9 摩西遂造銅蛇、懸之於竿、爲蛇所嚙者、觀之而得生、○ And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
10 以色列族啟行、建營於阿伯、 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
11 自阿伯啟行、建營於以耶亞巴琳、在摩押野之東、 And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije–abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
12 由此而往、建營於撒烈谷、 From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
13 再往、建營於亞嫩溪東、其溪在野、源出亞摩利境、原爲摩押及亞摩利之界、 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14 耶和華戰紀曰、蘇法之哇哈伯及亞嫩谷、 Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the Lord, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
15 諸谷之地勢、斜趨亞珥鄉、附近摩押界、 And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
16 由此而往、至於比珥、在彼有井、昔耶和華諭摩西曰、汝集人民、我飲以水、 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the Lord spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
17 時、以色列族謳歌曰、井泉湧兮、爾曹詠之、 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
18 惟此井兮、牧伯鑿之、民之長者、以梃以杖掘之、 The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
19 厥後離野、往瑪他拿、自瑪他拿往拿哈列、自拿哈列往巴末、 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
20 自巴末往摩押郊之谷、至毘斯迦山巔、與野相望之處、○ And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
21 以色列族遣使詣亞摩利王西宏曰、 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
22 請容我過爾地、我不偏入田畝、及葡萄園、不飲井水、行由大道、以過爾境、 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
23 西宏不許、乃集厥民、往於曠野、至雅雜、與以色列族戰、 And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
24 以色列族以刃擊之、據有其地、自亞嫩迄於雅博溪、至亞捫而止、蓋亞捫族之邊境險固、 And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
25 亞摩利人之邑希實本、及其鄉里、以色列族悉取之、居處其中、 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
26 昔亞摩利王西宏、與摩押先王戰、徧取斯地、至亞嫩溪、希實本乃其都也、 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
27 詩人詠之曰、希實本、爾其詣之、西宏邑、願建築之、 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
28 火自希實本而出、焰自西宏邑而發、燬摩押之亞珥、及亞嫩崇邱之牧伯、 For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
29 摩押其有禍兮、基抹之民其將亡兮、厥子遁逃、厥女見攘、爲亞摩利王西宏所獲、 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
30 我已射之、希實本危亡、爰及底本、我已滅之、至於挪法、迄米底巴、○ We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
31 於是以色列族、居亞摩利人之地、 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
32 摩西遣人窺察雅謝、遂取其鄉里、驅遂亞摩利人、 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
33 以色列族旋返、往巴珊道、巴珊王噩率衆出而攻之、在以得來與之戰、 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
34 耶和華諭摩西曰、毋畏之、我以斯王、及其人民土地、咸付爾手、汝待遇之、如都希實本之亞摩利王西宏然、 And the Lord said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
35 遂擊王、及其子其民、靡有孑遺、據有其地、 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
