1 維時、聖神導耶穌適野、見試於魔、 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 禁食四十晝夜、則飢、 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 試者進曰、爾若上帝子、可命此石爲餅、 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 曰、記有之、人之生也、不第恃餅、惟恃上帝所出之言、 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 魔遂攜之入聖京、立之於殿頂、 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 曰、爾若上帝子、可投下、記有之、彼將命其使以手扶爾、免足觸石、 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 耶穌曰、記亦有之、勿試主爾之上帝、 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 魔復攜之陟最高之山、以世上諸國及其榮華示之、 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 曰、若俯伏拜我、悉以予爾、 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 耶穌曰、撒但退、記有之、當拜主爾之上帝、而獨事之、 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 於是魔去之、天使至而服事焉、○ Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
12 耶穌聞約翰下獄、乃退往加利利、 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
13 又去拿撒勒、至迦百農居焉、其地瀕海、在西布倫拿弗他利境、 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 應先知以賽亞所言云、 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 沿海之西布倫拿弗他利地、卽約但外異邦之加利利、 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 其處於暗之民、已見大光、處於死地陰翳者、有光昇及之、 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 自是耶穌始宣言曰、爾宜改悔、天國邇矣、○ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 耶穌經行加利利海濱、見兄弟二人、乃西門稱彼得者、與其弟安得烈、施網於海、蓋漁者也、 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 謂之曰、從我、我將使爾爲漁人者焉、 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 卽舍網從之、 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
21 由此而前、又見兄弟二人、乃西庇太之子雅各、與其弟約翰、偕父在舟補網、招之、 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 卽舍舟別父而從焉、○ And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
23 耶穌周行加利利、在諸會堂訓誨、宣天國福音、醫庶民疾病、 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 聲名洋溢於叙利亞、人攜諸負病、疾苦、患鬼、癲癇、癱瘓者、就之、悉醫焉、 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
25 時、有衆自加利利、低加波利、耶路撒冷、猶太、及約但外從之、 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.
