| 1 | 維時、施洗約翰至、宣言於猶太野、 | In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, |
| 2 | 曰、爾宜改悔、天國邇矣、 | And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. |
| 3 | 此乃先知以賽亞所言者、曰、有呼於野者、其聲云、備主路、直其徑、 | For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. |
| 4 | 夫約翰身衣駝毛、腰束革帶、食則蝗蟲野蜜、 | And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. |
| 5 | 時、耶路撒冷、猶太、及約但四方、咸出就之、 | Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan, |
| 6 | 在約但河受其洗、而承己罪、 | And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. |
| 7 | 約翰見法利賽人撒都該人、多就其洗、謂之曰、蝮類乎、誰示爾避將來之怒乎、 | But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? |
| 8 | 故當結果、以副改悔、 | Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: |
| 9 | 勿自謂、我有亞伯拉罕爲父也、我語汝、上帝能由此石、興起亞伯拉罕之子孫焉、 | And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. |
| 10 | 今斧置樹根、凡不結善果者、則斫之、委於火、 | And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. |
| 11 | 夫我洗爾以水、俾爾改悔、但後我來者、尤勝於我、卽攜其履、我亦弗堪、彼將洗爾以聖神及火焉、 | I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: |
| 12 | 其手執箕、簸淨厥場、斂麥入倉、以不滅之火而燒其糠、○ | Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. |
| 13 | 時、耶穌自加利利至約但就約翰、欲受其洗、 | Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. |
| 14 | 約翰辭曰、我應受洗於爾、爾乃就我乎、 | But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? |
| 15 | 耶穌曰、今姑許我、我儕當如是以盡諸義、乃許之、 | And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. |
| 16 | 耶穌受洗、由水而上、天爲之開、見上帝之神、如鴿降臨其上、 | And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: |
| 17 | 自天有聲云、此我愛子、我所欣悅者、 | And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. |
