| 1 | 我子乎、宜於基督耶穌之恩而剛健、 | Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. |
| 2 | 爾於多證者前、所聞於我者、宜託忠信之人、俾能訓他人、 | And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. |
| 3 | 爾當共苦、如基督耶穌之勁卒、 | Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. |
| 4 | 夫從軍者、不以世務自累、致悅乎募之者、 | No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. |
| 5 | 角力而不合法、則不得冕、 | And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. |
| 6 | 勤勞之農、必先得穀、 | The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. |
| 7 | 宜思是言、蓋主將賜爾敏於事、 | Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. |
| 8 | 當憶耶穌基督、彼乃大衞之裔、自死而起、依我福音、 | Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: |
| 9 | 我爲此受苦、至於見繫猶犯法者、然上帝之道不見繫也、 | Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. |
| 10 | 故我因選民而忍諸難、使於基督耶穌而得拯救、並得永榮、 | Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. |
| 11 | 我儕若與之同死、亦將與之同生、誠哉是言、 | It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: |
| 12 | 若恆忍、亦必與之同王、若不識之、彼亦不識我、 | If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: |
| 13 | 我若不信、彼終於信、蓋不能自違也、○ | If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. |
| 14 | 爾當使衆憶此、於主前諭之、勿爲言詞爭競、不第無益、且傾覆聽之者、 | Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. |
| 15 | 宜殷勤獻己於上帝、蒙其嘉納、爲無愧之傭、善布眞道、 | Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. |
| 16 | 惟遠不經之虛談、因若人將益進於不虔、 | But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. |
| 17 | 其言如瘡瘀而蔓延、有若許米乃、腓理徒、 | And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus; |
| 18 | 彼失眞理、言復起之事旣往、致傾覆數人之信、 | Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. |
| 19 | 然上帝鞏固之基仍立、有印誌云、主識己民、又云、凡呼主名者、宜遠不義、 | Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. |
| 20 | 夫廣廈之中、其器不第金銀、亦有木瓦、或爲貴用、或爲賤用、 | But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. |
| 21 | 人若棄此而潔己、則爲貴用之器、清潔而適主用、備諸善工、 | If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. |
| 22 | 宜絕幼年之慾、趨於義、信、愛、和、同乎清心籲主者、 | Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. |
| 23 | 惟愚魯弗學之辯論、則拒之、蓋知此乃生爭競也、 | But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. |
| 24 | 主之僕不宜爭競、乃以温和處衆、善施教、忍受侮、 | And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, |
| 25 | 違逆者、宜以謙和規正之、庶幾上帝賜以悛心、俾識眞理、 | In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; |
| 26 | 致自醒以脫魔之機檻、此乃爲主之僕所取、以成上帝之旨也、 | And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. |
