| 1 | 人慕監督之職、乃羨善工、誠哉是言、 | This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. |
| 2 | 夫監督須無可責、爲一婦之夫、節制、貞正端方、厚待賓旅、善施教誨、 | A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; |
| 3 | 不酗洒、不毆擊、惟温和無競、不好貨財、 | Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; |
| 4 | 善齊其家、使子女莊重順服、 | One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; |
| 5 | 蓋不知齊家、何能理上帝會乎、 | (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) |
| 6 | 甫入教者未可也、恐其自衒、罹魔之刑、 | Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. |
| 7 | 又當有善證於外人、免遭誹謗、及魔之機檻、 | Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. |
| 8 | 執事亦須莊重、不歧舌、不嗜酒、不黷貨、 | Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; |
| 9 | 以清潔之良、存道之奧、 | Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. |
| 10 | 若此者、必先驗之、無可責而後充執事、 | And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. |
| 11 | 婦女亦須莊重、勿讒謗、當有節制、凡事忠信、 | Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. |
| 12 | 執事須爲一婦之夫、善治子女與其家、 | Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. |
| 13 | 善充執事者、自獲嘉級、且毅然於基督耶穌之道、○ | For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 14 | 我冀速就爾、 | These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: |
| 15 | 然恐稽延、書此遺爾、俾知當如何行於上帝家、卽維生上帝會、眞理之柱石、 | But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. |
| 16 | 大哉敬虔之奧、無不以爲然也、彼乃顯於形軀、徵於心靈、見於天使、宣於列邦、信於天下、躋於光榮焉、 | And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. |
