| 1 | 至於祭像之物、我知我衆皆有知識、第知識致驕矜、惟仁愛乃建立、 | Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. |
| 2 | 若人自以爲知、則所當知者、尚未知也、 | And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. |
| 3 | 人愛上帝、則爲上帝所知矣、 | But if any man love God, the same is known of him. |
| 4 | 夫食祭像之物、我知在世之像爲虛、上帝乃唯一無他、 | As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. |
| 5 | 雖稱神者不一、或在天、或在地、如有多神多主、 | For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) |
| 6 | 而我儕有一上帝、天父是也、萬物本之、我儕歸之、且有一主、耶穌基督是也、萬物由之、我儕亦由之、 | But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. |
| 7 | 然人不皆有此知識、至今有習於偶像者、每食若以爲祭物然、彼之良心旣弱、故見浼焉、 | Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. |
| 8 | 非所食者、使我悅於上帝、不食無損、食亦無益、 | But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. |
| 9 | 惟宜愼之、恐爾之自由、爲弱者之窒礙也、 | But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. |
| 10 | 或見爾有知識者、席坐偶像之廟、其人良心尚弱、豈不果於食祭像之物乎、 | For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; |
| 11 | 懦弱之兄弟、基督爲之死、乃因爾知識而淪亡、 | And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? |
| 12 | 爾如是獲罪於兄弟、傷其懦弱之良心、乃獲罪於基督矣、 | But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. |
| 13 | 故食物若礙我兄弟、則我永不食肉、免其礙之也、 | Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. |
