1 論及爾所書者、則男不近女爲善、 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 然爲淫故、夫各有其婦、婦各有其夫、 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3 夫當予婦以所宜、婦於夫亦然、 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 婦不得自主其身、惟夫主之、夫亦不得自主其身、惟婦主之、 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
5 勿相負、惟彼此契合、暫務祈禱、乃可相離、後仍相聚、以免情不自禁、撒但因之試爾、 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
6 我言此、許也、非命也、 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
7 我願衆皆如我、但各得其賜於上帝、一如此、一如彼、○ For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
8 我謂未嫁娶者與嫠婦、若恆如我則善、 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
9 倘不能自制、嫁娶可也、蓋嫁娶愈於慾爍也、 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
10 若已嫁娶者、我則命之、然非我也、乃主也、曰、婦勿去夫、 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
11 若去之、則無他適、或仍與夫和、夫亦勿棄婦、 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
12 語其餘、我也、非主也、如兄弟有婦不信、彼願同居、則勿棄之、 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
13 婦有夫不信、彼願同居、則勿棄之、 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
14 蓋不信之夫以婦聖、不信之婦以夫聖、不然、則子女不潔、而今俱聖矣、 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
15 若不信者欲去、則聽之、兄弟姊妹、於此俱無束縛、蓋上帝召我以和也、 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
16 爲婦者焉知能救爾夫否乎、爲夫者焉知能救爾婦否乎、 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
17 惟當各依主之頒賜、並如上帝所召而行、我命諸會亦如是、 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
18 人旣受割而見召、則勿廢割、人未受割而見召、則勿受割、 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
19 割與不割、皆無足重、惟守上帝誡而已、 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
20 各宜止於見召時之分、 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
21 爾爲奴而見召、勿以爲慮、若能得釋、寧安之、 Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
22 蓋爲奴而見召於主、則爲主所釋、自由而見召、則爲基督之奴、 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.
23 爾乃以值見購、勿爲人奴、 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
24 兄弟乎、各宜與上帝偕而止於見召時之分焉、○ Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
25 論及處女、我未奉主命、惟蒙主矜恤以爲忠、則以己意示之、 Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
26 我意因今時之艱、守其素者爲善、 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
27 旣繫於婦、勿求釋、未繫於婦、勿求娶、 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 爾娶非罪、處女嫁亦非罪、但若輩形軀必遭難、願爾免之、 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
29 兄弟乎、我姑言之、時日促矣、今而後有妻者當如無妻、 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
30 哭者如無哭、喜者如無喜、購者如無有、 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
31 用此世者當如不妄用、蓋斯世之情狀逝矣、 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
32 我欲爾無所慮、無妻者慮主之事、如何悅主、 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 有妻者慮世之事、如何悅妻、 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
34 婦與處女亦有別、無夫者慮主之事、欲身與靈皆聖、有夫者慮世之事、如何悅夫、 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
35 我言此、爲益爾、非縛爾、乃所宜然、俾爾專於事主、心無紛擾、 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
36 或慮待其處女非宜、妙齡已過、事有當行、隨所欲亦無罪、婚嫁可也、 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
37 人若堅心而無所迫、自行其志、定意留其處女、亦爲善也、 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
38 如是、嫁之者善、不嫁之者尤善、 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
39 夫在婦繫、夫死婦脫、任所欲嫁、惟宗主者乃可、 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
40 我意不嫁更爲有福、且思我有上帝之神也、 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
