1 越十四年、我與巴拿巴復上耶路撒冷、亦攜提多、 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
2 乃依啟示而往、且以我在異邦所宣福音告之、惟私陳於有令聞者、免我前後奔馳爲徒然也、 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
3 偕我之提多、希利尼人也、未嘗強之受割、 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
4 因有私引之僞兄弟潛入、窺我儕於基督耶穌所得之自由、欲僕我儕、 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
5 我未嘗一時服而讓之、爲使福音之眞、恆存爾中、 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
6 至於有名望者、無論何如人、與我無涉、蓋上帝不以貌視人、彼有名望者、無所增益於我、 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
7 反乎此、旣見主託我宣福音於未受割者、亦猶託彼得宣於已受割者、 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8 蓋感彼得爲使徒於受割者、亦感我爲使徒於異邦、 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
9 且知賜我之恩、雅各磯法約翰、人所視爲柱石者、則施右手相交之禮、於我及巴拿巴、俾適異邦、而彼往受割者、 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
10 惟欲我儕顧念貧者、我亦殷勤爲是也、○ Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
11 然磯法至安提阿、我面諍之、以其干咎也、 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
12 蓋有自雅各來者、未至時、彼與異邦人同食、及至、則退而自別、畏受割者也、 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
13 其餘之猶太人、亦相率爲僞、甚至巴拿巴亦受其誘、而效尤焉、 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
14 我見其行不端、不依福音之眞、遂於衆前語之曰、爾猶太人也、所行旣如異邦人、非如猶太人、胡爲強異邦人如猶太人乎、 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
15 夫我儕本猶太人、非異邦罪人、 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
16 旣知人之見義、非由行律、乃由信耶穌基督、則信乎耶穌基督、俾由信而見義、不由行律、蓋無人由行律而見義也、 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
17 我儕於基督而求見義、仍不免爲罪人、則基督豈爲罪之役乎、非也、 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18 我若復建素所毀者、則自表爲干律者矣、 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
19 蓋我由律已死於律、致得生於上帝、 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
20 我已與基督同釘十架、而我尚生、非我也、基督生於我中也、今我生於形軀者、乃因信而生、卽信上帝子愛我而爲我捐己者也、 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
21 我不虛上帝之恩、蓋義若由律、則基督之死爲徒然矣、 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
