Job Continues / I Long for the Past
Job said:
Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
I long for the past, when God took care of me, Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
and the light from his lamp showed me the way through the dark. When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
I was in the prime of life, God All-Powerful was my closest friend, As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
and all of my children were nearby. When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
My herds gave enough milk to bathe my feet, and from my olive harvest flowed rivers of oil. * When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
When I sat down at the meeting of the city council, When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!
the young leaders stepped aside, * The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
while the older ones stood The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
and remained silent. The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

Everyone Was Pleased
Everyone was pleased with what I said and did.
When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
When poor people or orphans cried out for help, I came to their rescue. Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
And I was highly praised for my generosity to widows and others in poverty. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
Kindness and justice were my coat and hat; I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
I was helpful to the blind and to the lame. I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
I was a father to the needy, and I defended them in court, even if they were strangers. I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
When criminals attacked, I broke their teeth and set their victims free. And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
I felt certain that I would live a long and happy life, then die in my own bed. Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
In those days I was strong like a tree with deep roots and with plenty of water, My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
or like an archer's new bow. My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
Everyone listened in silence to my welcome advice, Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
and when I finished speaking, nothing needed to be said. After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
My words were eagerly accepted like the showers of spring, And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
and the smile on my face renewed everyone's hopes. If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
My advice was followed as though I were a king leading my troops, or someone comforting those in sorrow. I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
