Job Continues / Gold and Silver Are Mined Gold and silver are mined, then purified;
Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it. |
the same is done with iron and copper. | Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
Miners carry lanterns deep into the darkness to search for these metals. | He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
They dig tunnels in distant, unknown places, where they dangle by ropes. | The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
Far beneath the grain fields, fires are built to break loose those rocks | As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
that have jewels or gold. | The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
Miners go to places unseen by the eyes of hawks; | There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:
they walk on soil unknown to the proudest lions. | The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
With their own hands they remove sharp rocks and uproot mountains. | He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
They dig through the rocks in search of jewels and precious metals. | He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
They also uncover the sources of rivers and discover secret places. | He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
Where Is Wisdom Found? But where is wisdom found?
But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? |
No human knows the way. | Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Nor can it be discovered in the deepest sea. * | The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
It is worth much more than silver or pure gold | It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
or precious stones. | It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
Nothing is its equal— not gold or costly glass. | The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
Wisdom is worth much more than coral, jasper, or rubies. | No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
All the topaz of Ethiopia and the finest gold cannot compare with it. | The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
Where then is wisdom? | Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
It is hidden from human eyes and even from birds. | Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
Death and destruction have merely heard rumors about where it is found. | Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
God is the only one who knows the way to wisdom; | God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
he alone sees everything beneath the heavens. | For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
When God divided out the wind and the water, | To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
and when he decided the path for rain and lightning, | When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
he also determined the truth and defined wisdom. | Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
God told us, “Wisdom means that you respect me, the Lord, and turn from sin.” | And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
