(A song and a psalm by Asaph.) / God Rules All the Earth Our God, don't just sit there, silently doing nothing!
Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. |
Your hateful enemies are turning against you and rebelling. | For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
They are sly, and they plot against those you treasure. | They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
They say, “Let's wipe out the nation of Israel and make sure that no one remembers its name!” | They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
All of them fully agree in their plans against you, and among them are | For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; | The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia and Phoenicia. | Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Even Assyria has joined forces with Moab and Ammon. | Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.
Our Lord, punish all of them as you punished Midian. Destroy them, as you destroyed Sisera and Jabin at Kishon Creek | Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:
near Endor, and let their bodies rot. | Which perished at En–dor: they became as dung for the earth.
Treat their leaders as you did Oreb and Zeeb, Zebah and Zalmunna. | Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:
All of them said, “We'll take God's valuable land!” | Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.
Our God, scatter them around like dust in a whirlwind. | O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.
Just as flames destroy forests on the mountains, | As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
pursue and terrify them with storms of your own. | So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
Make them blush with shame, until they turn and worship you, our Lord. | Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.
Let them be forever ashamed and confused. Let them die in disgrace. | Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:
Make them realize that you are the Lord Most High, the only ruler of earth! | That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.
