(Written by David. He sang this to the because of Cush from the tribe of Benjamin.) / The Always Does Right You, Lord God, are my protector. Rescue me and keep me safe from all who chase me.
O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: |
Or else they will rip me apart like lions attacking a victim, and no one will save me. | Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
I am innocent, Lord God! | O Lord my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;
I have not betrayed a friend or had pity on an enemy who attacks for no reason. | If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)
If I have done any of this, then let my enemies chase and capture me. Let them trample me to death and leave me in the dirt. | Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.
Get angry, Lord God! Do something! Attack my furious enemies. See that justice is done. | Arise, O Lord, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.
Make the nations come to you, as you sit on your throne above them all. | So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.
Our Lord, judge the nations! Judge me and show that I am honest and innocent. | The Lord shall judge the people: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.
You know every heart and mind, and you always do right. Now make violent people stop, but protect all of us who obey you. | Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.
You, God, are my shield, the protector of everyone whose heart is right. | My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.
You see that justice is done, and each day you take revenge. | God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
Whenever your enemies refuse to change their ways, you sharpen your sword and string your bow. | If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.
Your deadly arrows are ready with flaming tips. | He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.
An evil person is like a woman about to give birth to a hateful, deceitful, and rebellious child. | Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
Such people dig a deep hole, then fall in it themselves. | He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
The trouble they cause comes back on them, and their heads are crushed by their own evil deeds. | His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.
I will praise you, Lord! You always do right. I will sing about you, the Lord Most High. | I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.
