Don't Criticize Others
Welcome all the Lord's followers, even those whose faith is weak. Don't criticize them for having beliefs that are different from yours.
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
2 Some think it is all right to eat anything, while those whose faith is weak will eat only vegetables. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3 But you should not criticize others for eating or for not eating. After all, God welcomes everyone. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 What right do you have to criticize someone else's servants? Only their Lord can decide if they are doing right, and the Lord will make sure that they do right. Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 Some of the Lord's followers think one day is more important than another. Others think all days are the same. But each of you should make up your own mind. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 Any followers who count one day more important than another day do it to honor their Lord. And any followers who eat meat give thanks to God, just like the ones who don't eat meat. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7 Whether we live or die, it must be for God, rather than for ourselves. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8 Whether we live or die, it must be for the Lord. Alive or dead, we still belong to the Lord. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.
9 This is because Christ died and rose to life, so that he would be the Lord of the dead and of the living. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
10 Why do you criticize other followers of the Lord? Why do you look down on them? The day is coming when God will judge all of us. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 In the Scriptures God says, “I swear by my very life that everyone will kneel down and praise my name!” For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 And so, each of us must give an account to God for what we do. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
13
Don't Cause Problems for Others
We must stop judging others. We must also make up our minds not to upset anyone's faith.
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.
14 The Lord Jesus has made it clear to me that God considers all foods fit to eat. But if you think some foods are unfit to eat, then for you they are not fit. I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
15 If you are hurting others by the foods you eat, you are not guided by love. Don't let your appetite destroy someone Christ died for. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.
16 Don't let your right to eat bring shame to Christ. Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
17 God's kingdom isn't about eating and drinking. It is about pleasing God, about living in peace, and about true happiness. All this comes from the Holy Spirit. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
18 If you serve Christ in this way, you will please God and be respected by people. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
19 We should try to live at peace and help each other have a strong faith. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
20 Don't let your appetite destroy what God has done. All foods are fit to eat, but it is wrong to cause problems for others by what you eat. For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
21 It is best not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else that causes problems for other followers of the Lord. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
22 What you believe about these things should be kept between you and God. You are fortunate, if your actions don't make you have doubts. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
23 But if you do have doubts about what you eat, you are going against your beliefs. And you know that is wrong, because anything you do against your beliefs is sin. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
