1	König Ahasja und seine Mutter Atalja / Ahasja folgt einem schlechten Beispiel Die Einwohner von Jerusalem machten anstelle Jorams seinen jüngsten Sohn Ahasja zum König. Denn Räuber hatten alle älteren Söhne getötet. Die Räuber waren mit den Arabern in das Lager gekommen. So wurde Jorams Sohn Ahasja König von Juda.	And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
2	Ahasja war 22 Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte ein Jahr in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Atalja. Sie war eine Enkelin des Königs Omri von Israel.	Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.
3	Auch Ahasja folgte dem schlechten Vorbild des Hauses Ahab. Seine Mutter beriet ihn so, dass er Schuld auf sich lud.	He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
4	Wie das Haus Ahab tat er das, was der Herr verurteilt. Nach dem Tod seines Vaters holte er sich Berater von ihm. Das war sein Verderben.	Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
5	Einmal zog er auf ihren Rat hin mit Joram in den Krieg. Joram war ein Sohn von Ahab und König in Israel. Bei Ramot-Gilead kam es zum Kampf gegen Hasael, den König von Aram. Dabei verwundeten die Aramäer Joram.	He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth–gilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.
6	Er musste deshalb heimkehren. In Jesreel wollte er sich von den Wunden erholen. Die hatte man ihm zugefügt im Kampf gegen König Hasael von Aram bei Ramot. Auch König Ahasja von Juda, der Sohn des Joram, kam hinab nach Jesreel. Er wollte nach Joram, dem Sohn des Ahab, sehen, weil der verletzt war.	And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.
7	Gott brachte Ahasja zu Fall, weil er zu Joram ging: Als er bei Joram angekommen war, griffen die beiden Jehu an, den Sohn des Nimschi. Der Herr hatte Jehu aber dazu bestimmt, das Haus Ahab auszurotten.	And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
8	Während Jehu mit dem Haus Ahab ins Gericht ging, traf er auf die führenden Männer aus Juda. Darunter waren auch die Neffen von Ahasja. Sie standen im Dienst von Ahasja, und Jehu tötete sie alle.	And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.
9	Aber Jehu wollte auch Ahasja selbst finden. Man fasste ihn schließlich in Samaria, wo er sich versteckt hatte. Ahasja wurde zu Jehu gebracht, der ihn tötete. Man begrub Ahasja, denn man sagte sich: »Er war ein Enkel des Joschafat, der den Herrn von ganzem Herzen gesucht hat.« Danach gab es niemanden im Haus Ahasja mehr, der die Herrschaft übernehmen konnte.	And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
10	Atalja gefährdet das Königshaus Atalja, die Mutter des Ahasja, erfuhr, dass ihr Sohn tot war. Da ließ sie die ganze königliche Familie hinrichten, das ganze Haus Juda.	But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
11	Joscheba aber, die Tochter von König Joram, nahm Ahasjas kleinen Sohn Joasch heimlich zu sich. Sie brachte ihn weg von den Königssöhnen, die getötet werden sollten. Zusammen mit seiner Amme versteckte sie ihn in der Bettenkammer. So verbarg ihn Joscheba, die Königstochter, vor Atalja. Joscheba war die Frau des Priesters Jojada und die Schwester von Ahasja. So kam es, dass Atalja Joasch nicht töten konnte.	But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.
12	Danach hielt der sich sechs Jahre lang verborgen und blieb im Haus Gottes. Währenddessen herrschte Atalja über das Land.	And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.
