|---|---|---|
¶ No ken tok hambak long samting yu yet bai mekim tumora. Long wanem, yu no save wanem samting bai kam ausait long wanpela de. | Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
¶ Larim narapela man litimapim nem bilong yu, na i no ken maus bilong yu yet, ausait man, na i no ken maus bilong yu yet. | Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
¶ Ston em i hevi, na wesan em i hevi, tasol belhat tru bilong krankiman em i heavy moa tupela wantaim. | A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.
Belhat tru i amamas long givim pen, na belhat i bagarapim man. Tasol husat em inap long sanap long pes bilong pasin mangal? | Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
¶ Hatim ples klia i winim laikim tru i stap hait. | Open rebuke is better than secret love.
Ol bagarap i kam long pren ol i samting yu inap putim bilip long ol. Tasol ol kis bilong birua i samting bilong giamanim. | Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
¶ Tewel i pulap i no laikim tru kom bilong hani. Tasol long tewel i hangre, olgeta wan wan samting i gat pait tru i swit. | The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
¶ Olsem pisin husat i lusim haus bilong en na i raun, man husat i lusim ples bilong en na i raun i stap olsem tasol. | As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
¶ Wel i gat marasin na sanda i wokim amamas tru long bel. Na long gutpela tok helpim, naispela pasin bilong pren bilong man i mekim olsem tasol. | Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.
No ken givim baksait long pren bilong yu yet na long pren bilong papa bilong yu. Na tu yu no ken go insait long haus bilong brata bilong yu long de bikpela hevi bilong yu. Long wanem, man i stap klostu long yu i winim brata i stap longwe. | Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
¶ Pikinini man bilong mi, stap saveman, na mekim bel bilong mi amamas, inap long mi ken bekim tok long em husat i givim sem long mi. | My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
¶ Man bilong yusim save i lukim samting nogut i laik kamap, na haitim em yet. Tasol ol man i no gat save i go pas, na kisim mekim save. | A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
¶ Kisim klos bilong em husat i sanap baksait long dinau bilong ausait man, na kisim makmak long em long helpim narakain meri. | Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
¶ Em husat i blesim pren bilong em wantaim bikpela nek, taim em i kirap long moning tru, ol bai kaunim dispela long em olsem tok nogut. | He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
¶ Ren i pundaun oltaim long de bilong ren, na meri bilong pait, tupela i wankain. | A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
Husat man i haitim em i haitim win, na wel i gat marasin bilong han sut bilong em, dispela i soim em yet ples klia. | Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
¶ Ain i sapim ain. Olsem tasol man i save sapim pes bilong pren bilong en. | Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
¶ Husat man i lukautim diwai fik bai kaikai kaikai bilong en. Olsem tasol em husat i wet long bikman bilong em bai kisim ona. | Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
¶ Olsem long wara pes i bekim long pes, olsem tasol bel bilong man bekim tok long man. | As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
¶ Hel na bagarap olgeta i no save pulap. Wankain olsem ol ai bilong man i no save ting samting em inap tru. | Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
¶ Olsem sospen bilong kukim na rausim pipia bilong silva, na ples bilong strongpela paia bilong kukim gol, man i stap olsem tasol long pasin bilong litimapim nem bilong em. | As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
¶ Maski yu memeim krankiman long dis namel long wit wantaim diwai bilong memeim, yet kranki pasin bilong em bai i no inap lusim em. | Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
¶ Yu mas wok strong long save long ol lain sipsip bilong yu i stap olsem wanem, na lukautim gut ol lain bulmakau bilong yu. | Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
Long wanem, ol planti mani samting i no bilong oltaim oltaim. Na ating hat king i stap inap long olgeta wan wan lain tumbuna? | For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
Gras i drai i kamap ples klia, na nupela gras i soim em yet, na ol i bungim ol sayor bilong ol maunten. | The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
Ol pikinini sipsip i bilong klos bilong yu, na ol meme i pe bilong ples kunai. | The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
Na yu bai gat susu bilong ol meme inap long kaikai bilong yu, long kaikai bilong ol wanhaus bilong yu, na long lukautim ol yangpela meri bilong yu. | And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
