¶ Bihain long dispela Jop i opim maus bilong em na toknogutim de bilong em. | After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
Na Jop i toktok, na tok, | And Job spake, and said,
Larim dispela de i dai olgeta we mama i bin karim mi long en, na nait long ol i bin tok, Wanpela meri i gat bel long wanpela pikinini man. | Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
Larim dispela de stap tudak. No ken larim God i tingting planti long en long antap, o larim lait i lait antap long en tu. | Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
Larim tudak na tewel bilong dai bagarapim kala bilong en. Larim wanpela klaut stap antap long en. Larim blakpela bilong de i pretim dispela nogut tru. | Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
Long sait bilong dispela nait, larim tudak i holimpas dispela strong. No ken larim dispela bung long ol de bilong yia, no ken larim dispela i kam insait long namba bilong ol mun. | As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
Harim, larim dispela nait stap wanpis, no ken larim nek bilong amamas tru i kam insait long en. | Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
Larim ol i toknogutim dispela husat i toknogutim dispela de, husat i redi long kirapim soim sori bilong ol. | Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
Larim ol sta bilong apinun tru bilong en stap tudak. Larim dispela i painim lait, tasol em i no ken gat sampela. Na tu larim dispela i no ken lukim kirap bilong de. | Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
Bilong wanem, em i no pasim ol dua bilong bel bilong mama bilong mi, o haitim bel hevi long tupela ai bilong mi. | Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
¶ Bilong wanem mi no bin dai long bel bilong mama? Bilong wanem mi no bin lusim spirit taim mi kam ausait long bel? | Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
Bilong wanem tupela skru bilong lek i go pas long mi? O bilong wanem tupela bros, long mi ken pulim susu? | Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?
Long wanem, nau mi bin slip isi na stap isi, mi bin slip. Nau mi bin stap long malolo, | For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
Wantaim ol king na ol man bilong givim tok helpim bilong dispela graun, husat i wokim ol ples i stap nating olgeta bilong ol yet, | With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;
O wantaim ol hetman husat i gat gol, husat i pulimapim ol haus bilong ol wantaim silva, | Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:
O olsem wanpela karim hait na i no taim bilong en, mi no bin stap, olsem ol bebi tru husat i no bin lukim lait. | Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
Long dispela hap ol man nogut i lusim pasin bilong givim wari. Na long dispela hap ol man i pilim les tru i stap long malolo. | There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
Long dispela hap ol kalabusman i malolo wantaim. Ol i no harim nek bilong man bilong givim hevi. | There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.
Man nating na bikman i stap long dispela hap. Na wokboi i fri long bikman bilong em. | The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
¶ Olsem wanem na God i givim lait long em husat i stap long hevi nogut, na laip i go long man husat tewel bilong em i bagarap tru, | Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
Husat i krai bilong dai, tasol em i no kam, na digim long en moa long ol samting i dia tru i hait, | Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
Husat i wokim amamas tru planti moa yet, na stap amamas, taim ol i ken painim pinis matmat? | Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
Bilong wanem God i givim lait long wanpela man husat rot bilong em i stap hait, na husat God i bin banisim insait wantaim liklik bus? | Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?
Long wanem, pasin bilong lusim win bilong soim wari bilong mi i kam bipo mi kaikai, na bikpela krai bilong mi i kapsait olsem ol wara. | For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
Long wanem, dispela samting mi pretim bikpela em i kam antap long mi, na dispela samting mi pretim em i kam long mi. | For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
Mi no stap orait, na tu mi no bin malolo, na tu mi no stap isi, tasol trabel i kam. | I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
