¶ Mi wokim wanpela kontrak wantaim tupela ai bilong mi. Bilong wanem nau mi ken tingting long wanpela yangpela meri. | I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
Long wanem, i gat wanem hap skel bilong God i kam long antap? Na wanem samting papa i givim pikinini bilong Man i Gat Olgeta Strong i kam long antap? | For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
Ating i yes long bagarap olgeta i go long ol man nogut? Na ating i yes long wanpela narakain mekim save i go long ol man bilong mekim sin nogut? | Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?
Ating i yes long Em i lukim ol rot bilong mi, na kaunim olgeta step bilong mi? | Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?
Sapos mi bin wokabaut wantaim pasin nating, o sapos lek bilong mi i bin ran hariap i go long giaman pasin, | If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;
Larim ol skelim mi long wanpela stretpela skel, inap long God i ken save long pasin holi bilong mi. | Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.
Sapos step bilong mi i bin tanim ausait long rot, na bel bilong mi i wokabaut i bihainim tupela ai bilong mi, na sapos wanpela samting nogut i bin pas strong long tupela han bilong mi, | If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;
Orait larim mi planim, na larim narapela i ken kaikai. Yes, larim ol man i ken digim i kam ausait ol pikinini i kamaut long mi olsem rop daunbilo. | Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.
¶ Sapos wanpela meri i bin giamanim bel bilong mi, o sapos mi bin wet hait long dua bilong man i stap klostu long mi, | If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door;
Orait larim meri bilong mi i ken rabrabim i go long narapela, na larim ol arapela i lindaun antap long em. | Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
Long wanem, dispela em i wanpela bikpela rong nogut tru, yes, dispela em i wanpela sin nogut long ol jas i ken wokim mekim save long en. | For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.
Long wanem, dispela em i wanpela paia i kaikai olgeta bilong bagarapim, na dispela bai digim i kam ausait olgeta win samting bilong mi olsem rop daunbilo. | For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
Sapos mi bin tingim olsem wari bilong wokman bilong mi o wokmeri bilong mi i samting nating, taim ol i tok pait strong wantaim mi, | If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;
Nau mi bai mekim wanem taim God i kirap? Na taim em i kam lukim mi, mi bai bekim tok wanem long Em? | What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
Ating i yes long Em husat i wokim mi insait long bel bilong mama i wokim em? Na ating i yes long Wanpela tasol i wokim gut mipela insait long bel bilong mama? | Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?
¶ Sapos mi bin holim bek ol rabisman long laik bilong ol, o sapos mi bin mekim ol ai bilong meri man bilong em i dai pinis long fel, | If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
O sapos mi bin kaikai liklik hap kaikai bilong mi yet wanpela, na pikinini i no gat papa i no bin kaikai long en, | Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;
(Long wanem, i stat long taim mi yangpela ol i lukautim em inap long em i bikpela wantaim mi, olsem wantaim wanpela papa, na mi bin stiaim meri i kam long taim mi i lusim bel bilong mama bilong mi inap long nau,) | (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s womb;)
Sapos mi bin lukim wanpela i dai olgeta bikos em i sot tru long klos, o wanpela rabisman i no gat karamap, | If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;
Sapos ol namel bilong bel bilong em i no bin blesim mi, na sapos em i no kisim hat wantaim skin bilong sipsip bilong mi, | If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
Sapos mi bin litimapim han bilong mi i birua long pikinini i no gat papa, taim mi lukim helpim bilong mi long dua bilong banis, | If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:
Orait larim han bilong mi pundaun i lusim bun bilong sol bilong han bilong mi, na han bilong mi i ken bruk na lusim bun. | Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
Long wanem, bagarap olgeta i kam long God em i wanpela samting bilong pretim mi nogut tru, na bikos Em i antap tru, mi no inap long stap yet. | For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.
¶ Sapos mi bin mekim gol hop bilong mi, o mi bin tokim naispela gol, Yu stap strongpela bilip bilong mi, | If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;
Sapos mi wokim amamas tru bikos bikpela mani samting bilong mi i bikpela, na bikos han bilong mi i bin kisim planti, | If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;
Sapos mi lukim san taim em i lait, o mun i wokabaut insait long bikpela lait, | If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;
Na dispela i bin grisim bel bilong mi hait, o maus bilong mi i bin givim kis long han bilong mi, | And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:
Dispela tu em i wanpela sin nogut bilong jas i ken wokim mekim save long en. Long wanem, sapos i olsem, mi bin tok nogat long God pinis, husat i stap antap. | This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.
Sapos mi wokim amamas tru long bagarap olgeta bilong man husat i hetim mi, o litimapim mi yet taim pasin nogut i painim em pinis. | If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:
Na tu mi no bin larim maus bilong mi mekim sin long gat laik tru long wanpela tok nogut i ken go long tewel bilong em. | Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.
Sapos ol man bilong haus holi bilong mi i no tok, O sapos yumi gat bilong bodi bilong em! Yumi no inap ting em inap tru. | If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.
Ausait man i no bin slip long rot, tasol mi opim ol dua bilong mi long man pasindia. | The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.
¶ Sapos mi karamapim ol sin bilong mi bilong kalapim lo olsem Adam, taim mi haitim ol sin nogut bilong mi long bros bilong mi, | If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:
Ating mi pretim traipela lain tru, o ating bikpela sem bilong ol famili i pretim mi nogut tru, inap long mi pasim maus, na mi no go ausait long dua? | Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?
O sapos wanpela i ken harim mi! Lukim, laik bilong mi i olsem, long Man i Gat Olgeta Strong i ken bekim tok long mi, na long birua bilong mi i bin raitim wanpela buk. | Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.
Tru tumas, mi bai kisim dispela i go antap long sol bilong han bilong mi, na pasim dispela olsem wanpela hat king long mi. | Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.
Mi bai tokaut long em long namba bilong ol step bilong mi. Olsem wanpela hetman mi bai go klostu long em. | I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
Sapos hap graun bilong mi i krai birua long mi, o long ol graun mi brukim bilong en i komplen wankain olsem, | If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;
Sapos mi bin kaikai long ol kaikai bilong en taim mi no gat mani, o sapos mi bin mekim ol papa bilong en bilong lusim laip bilong ol, | If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:
Orait, larim ol tisel i kamap bikpela na kisim ples bilong wit, na kakel i kisim ples bilong bali. Ol toktok bilong Jop i pinis. | Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
