¶ Nau taim ol birua bilong Juda na Benjamin i harim long ol pikinini bilong kalabus i wokim tempel i go long BIKPELA, God bilong Isrel, | Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the Lord God of Israel;
Nau ol i kam long Serubabel, na long ol nambawan hetman bilong ol papa bilong ol, na tokim ol, Larim mipela wokim tempel wantaim yupela. Long wanem, mipela i painim God bilong yupela, olsem yupela i mekim. Na mipela i sakrifais i go long Em i stat long ol de bilong Esar-hadon, king bilong Asur, husat i bringim mipela antap long hia. | Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar–haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.
Tasol Serubabel, na Jesua, na olgeta arapela bilong ol nambawan hetman bilong ol papa bilong Isrel, i tokim ol, Yupela i no gat wanpela wok wantaim mipela bilong wokim wanpela haus i go long God bilong mipela. Tasol mipela yet wantaim bai wokim tempel i go long BIKPELA, God bilong Isrel, olsem king Sairas, king bilong Persia, i bin tok strong long mipela. | But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the Lord God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
Nau ol manmeri bilong dispela hap i mekim ol han bilong ol manmeri bilong Juda i lusim strong, na givim wari long ol long wok, | Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
Na baim ol man bilong givim tok helpim i birua long ol, bilong wok long pasim wok bilong ol, olgeta de bilong Sairas, king bilong Persia, yes, i go inap long taim bilong bosim kingdom bilong Darius, king bilong Persia. | And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
¶ Na long taim bilong bosim kingdom bilong Ahasuerus, long taim bilong stat bilong em bilong bosim kingdom, ol i raitim i go long em wanpela rait bilong sutim tok i birua long ol husat i stap long Juda na Jerusalem. | And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
Na long ol de bilong Artaserksis Bislam, Mitredat, Tabel, na olgeta arapela bilong ol lain i save raun wantaim ol, i rait i go long Artaserksis, king bilong Persia. Na rait bilong dispela pas i stap long tok ples Siria, na ol i soim as mining long tok ples Siria. | And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.
Nambawan man bilong rait Rehum na man bilong rait Simsai i raitim wanpela pas i birua long Jerusalem i go long king Artaserksis i bihainim dispela kain. | Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
Nau nambawan man bilong rait Rehum, na man bilong rait Simsai, na olgeta arapela lain i save raun wantaim ol, ol lain Dina, ol lain Afarsat, ol lain Tarpel, ol lain Afarsa, ol lain Arkeva, ol lain Babilon, ol lain Susan, ol lain Dehava, na ol lain Ilam, | Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,
Na olgeta arapela bilong ol kantri husat dispela bikpela bikman Asnapar i bringim hapsait, na putim long ol biktaun bilong Samaria, na olgeta arapela husat i stap long dispela sait bilong riva, na long kain taim olsem, i raitim pas. | And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.
Dispela em i kopi bilong dispela pas ol i salim long em, yes, i go long king Artaserksis. Ol wokboi bilong yu, ol man long dispela sait long riva, na long kain taim olsem. | This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.
Larim king i ken save long dispela, long ol Ju husat i lusim yu i kam antap long mipela long Jerusalem, i wokim dispela biktaun i bikhet na i nogut. Na ol i bin sanapim ol banis bilong en, na bungim ol as ston bilong en wantaim . | Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.
Larim king i ken save nau long dispela, long, sapos ol i wokim dispela biktaun, na ol banis i sanap gen, orait ol bai i no inap baim takis bilong kisim helpim, takis mani, na kastam mani, na olsem tasol yu bai bagarapim mani i save kam long ol king. | Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.
Nau bikos mipela save kisim mani bilong lukautim mipela i kam long haus king bilong king, na em i no fit long mipela long lukim samting i bagarapim ona bilong king, olsem na mipela i bin salim tok na strongim tok i go long king, | Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;
Inap long ol i ken wokim wanpela painim tru long buk bilong ol stori tru bilong ol tumbuna papa bilong yu. Olsem tasol bai yu lukim long buk bilong ol stori tru, na save long dispela biktaun em i wanpela bikhet biktaun, na i save bagarapim ol king na ol provins, na long ol i bin kirapim pasin bilong bikhet long gavman insait long em stret long taim bipo. Long dispela as tasol ol i bagarapim dispela biktaun olgeta. | That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
Mipela strongim tok long king long, sapos ol i wokim dispela biktaun gen, na ol banis bilong en ol i sanapim, long dispela rot yu bai i no inap gat hap skel long dispela sait long riva. | We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
¶ Nau king i salim wanpela bekim i go long nambawan man bilong rait Rehum, na long man bilong rait Simsai, na long olgeta arapela bilong ol lain i save raun wantaim ol husat i stap long Samaria, na i go long olgeta arapela husat i stap hapsait long riva, Bel isi, na long kain taim olsem. | Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.
Dispela pas yupela i salim i kam long mipela ol i bin ritim klia long ai bilong mi. | The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.
Na mi tok strong, na ol i bin wokim wanpela painim tru, na ol i painim pinis long dispela biktaun long taim bipo i bin wokim bikpela kirap long birua long ol king, na long ol i bin mekim bikhet pasin na pasin bilong bikhet long gavman insait long en. | And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
Ol i bin gat ol strongpela king tu long bosim Jerusalem, husat i bin bosim olgeta kantri hapsait long riva. Na takis bilong kisim helpim, takis mani, na kastam mani, ol man i baim i go long ol. | There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.
Yupela givim tok strong nau long mekim ol dispela man long lusim wok, na long ol i no ken wokim dispela biktaun, inap long taim mi bai givim narapela tok strong. | Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.
Was gut nau long yupela i no fel long mekim dispela. Bilong wanem bagarap i ken i go bikpela bilong bagarapim ol king? | Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
Nau taim ol i ritim kopi bilong pas bilong king Artaserksis long ai bilong Rehum, na man bilong rait Simsai, na ol lain i save raun wantaim ol, ol i go antap hariap long Jerusalem i go long ol Ju, na mekim ol long lusim wok wantaim strong na pawa. | Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
Nau ol i lusim wok long dispela haus bilong God i stap long Jerusalem. Olsem tasol wok i lus i go inap long namba tu yia bilong king Darius bilong Persia i bosim kingdom. | Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
