¶ O ol manmeri bilong mi, yupela i mas harim lo bilong mi. Yupela i mas putim ol ia bilong yupela long ol tok bilong maus bilong mi. | Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
Bai mi opim maus bilong mi long autim tok piksa. Bai mi autim ol tok tudak bilong bipo, | I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Em mipela i bin harim na mipela i save, na ol papa bilong mipela i bin tokim mipela. | Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
Bai mipela i no haitim ol long ol pikinini bilong ol. Long lain manmeri bai i kamap bihain bai mipela i soim ol samting bilong litimapim nem bilong BIKPELA. Na bai mipela i soim strong bilong Em, na ol wok bilong Em i save winim tingting. Em i bin wokim ol dispela. | We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
Long wanem Em i bin sanapim wanpela testimoni long Jekop na makim wanpela lo long Israel. Em i bin givim strongpela tok long dispela long ol tumbuna papa bilong mipela, bai ol i ken toksave long ol long ol pikinini bilong ol. | For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
Olsem na lain manmeri bai i kamap i ken save long ol, yes ol pikinini bai i kamap ol i ken save. Na ol i ken kirap na tokaut long ol long ol pikinini bilong ol. | That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
Bai ol i ken bilip na wet long God. Na ol i no ken lusim tingting long ol wok bilong God, nogat. Tasol ol i ken holimpas long ol strongpela tok bilong Em. | That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
Na ol i no ken stap olsem ol tumbuna papa bilong ol, ol i lain manmeri i bikhet na i sakim tok. Ol i lain manmeri i no bin mekim bel bilong ol i stap stret. Na spirit bilong ol i no bin i stap strong wantaim God. | And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
¶ Ol pikinini bilong Ifraim i karim i go ol samting bilong pait na i karim i go ol banara. Long de bilong pait ol i bin tanim i go bek. | The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
Ol i no bin holimpas long kontrak bilong God. Na ol i tok nogat long wokabaut long lo bilong Em. | They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
Na ol i lusim tingting long ol wok bilong Em na ol bikpela wok i winim tingting Em i bin soim ol. | And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
Long ai bilong ol tumbuna papa bilong ol, long hap graun bilong Isip, long ples gras bilong Soan, Em i bin mekim ol samting i mekim ol i tingting planti. | Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
Em i brukim solwara na Em i mekim ol i wokabaut i go namel. Na Em i mekim ol wara i sanap olsem liklik maunten. | He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
Long tulait Em i putim klaut bilong soim rot long ol tu. Na long olgeta nait, Em i soim rot long lait bilong paia. | In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
Long ples i no gat man, Em i bin brukim ol bikpela ston na givim wara long ol bilong dring, olsem em i kam long ol ples daunbilo tru. | He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
Na tu Em i bringim ol liklik wara i kamaut long bikpela ston, na Em i mekim ol wara i ran i go daun olsem ol bikwara. | He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
Na ol i mekim sin moa yet long Em taim ol i kirapim belhat bilong Man i Antap olgeta long ples i no gat man. | And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
Na long bel bilong ol, ol i traim God, taim ol i askim mit bilong inapim laik bilong bel bilong ol. | And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
Yes, ol i bin tok birua long God. Ol i bin tok, Ating God inap redim tebol long ples i no gat man, a? | Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
Harim, Em i bin paitim bikpela ston, olsem na ol wara i ran i kam, na ol liklik wara i pulap na kapsait. Ating Em inap givim bret tu? Ating Em inap redim mit bilong ol manmeri bilong En? | Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
Olsem na BIKPELA i harim dispela, na Em i belhat. Orait Em i laitim paia na salim i go long Jekop. Na tu belhat i kamap birua long Israel. | Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
Long wanem ol i no bin putim bilip bilong ol long God, na ol i no bin putim bilip bilong ol long kisim bek bilong Em. | Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
Tasol pastaim Em i bin givim strongpela tok long ol klaut long antap, na Em i bin opim ol dua bilong heven, . | Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
Na Em i bin salim mana i kam daun long ol olsem ren, bai ol i ken kaikai. Na Em i bin givim sampela bilong wit samting bilong heven long ol. | And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
Man i bin kaikai ol kaikai bilong ol ensel. Na Em i bin salim mit i kam long ol inap ol i pulap. | Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.
Em i bin mekim win i kam long hap sankamap na em i win i stap long heven. Na long pawa bilong En, Em i bin bringim win i kam long saut. | He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
Na tu Em i bin salim mit i pundaun long ol olsem das, na ol pisin i gat gras i pundaun long ol olsem wesan bilong solwara. | He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
Na Em i larim dispela i pundaun namel long kem bilong ol, nabaut long ol haus bilong ol. | And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
Olsem na ol i bin kaikai na i pulap tru. Long wanem Em i bin givim laik bilong ol yet long ol. | So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
Ol i no tanim i go na lusim samting bel bilong ol i kirap long en. Tasol taim mit bilong ol i stap yet long ol maus bilong ol, | They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
Orait belhat tru bilong God i kam antap long ol. Na Em i kilim i dai ol man bilong ol i patpela moa, na Em i paitim na daunim ol man bilong Israel, Em i bin makim ol. | The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
Dispela olgeta samting i bin kamap, tasol ol i mekim sin yet. Na ol i no bin bilipim ol bikpela wok bilong Em i winim tingting. | For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
Olsem na Em i bin bagarapim olgeta ol de bilong ol long pasin nating, na ol yia bilong ol long hevi. | Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
Taim Em i bin kilim ol i dai, orait ol i wok long painim Em. Na ol i bin kam bek na mekim askim long God kwiktaim. | When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
Na ol i bin tingting gen long God em i bikpela ston bilong ol na God antap Em i Man bilong baim bek ol. | And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
Tasol long maus bilong ol, ol i bin grisim Em. Na long ol tang bilong ol, ol i bin tok giaman long Em. | Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
Long wanem, bel bilong ol i no stap stretpela wantaim Em, na tu ol i no sanap strong long bihainim kontrak bilong Em. | For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
Tasol Em i pulap long sori na i lusim sin nogut bilong ol. Na Em i no bin bagarapim ol. Yes, planti taim Em i tanim belhat bilong En i lusim ol. Na Em i no bin kirapim olgeta belhat tru bilong En. | But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
Long wanem Em i bin holim tingting long ol i man tasol. Ol i wanpela win i kam i go pinis, na i no kam bek gen. | For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
¶ Planti taim ol i bin kirapim belhat bilong Em long ples i no gat man! Na ol i bin givim bel hevi long Em long ples wesan! | How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
Yes, ol i bin tanim i go bek, na ol i bin traim God na pasim dispela Wanpela i Holi bilong Israel. | Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
Ol i no bin tingim gen han bilong Em o de Em i bin tekewe ol long han bilong birua. | They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
Ol i no bin tingim gen olsem wok bilong Em long wokim ol mak bilong Em long Isip, na ol bikpela wok bilong Em i save winim tingting long ples kunai bilong Soan. | How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
Na Em i bin tanim ol bikwara bilong ol i kamap blut. Na Em i bin tanim ol wara i stap antap tru bilong ol bai ol i no inap dring. | And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
Em i bin salim olkain lang namel long ol, na ol lang i bin daunim ol. Na Em i bin salim ol rokrok, na ol rokrok i bin bagarapim ol. | He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Na tu Em i bin givim kaikai bilong ol long ol katapila, na ol samting ol i bin hatwok long kamapim Em i bin givim long grasop. | He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
Em i bin salim ston ais i kam na bagarapim ol rop diwai bilong ol. Na ais bilong moningtaim i bagarapim ol diwai sikamoa bilong ol. | He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
Em i bin givim ol bulmakau bilong ol long dispela ston ais tu. Na Em i bin givim ol lain sipsip bilong ol long ol hatpela lait i sut i kam long klaut i pairap. | He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
Em i bin tromoi strong bilong belhat, na belhat tru, na bel nogut, na bikpela hevi bilong Em i go long ol, taim Em i salim ol ensel nogut i kam namel long ol. | He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
Em i bin wokim rot long belhat bilong En. Em i no bin holim bek tewel bilong ol long i dai pinis, nogat. Tasol Em i bin givim laip bilong ol long bagarap long sik. | He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
Na Em i bin paitim olgeta namba wan pikinini long Isip, em i nambawan bilong strong bilong ol long ol haus sel bilong Ham. | And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
Tasol Em i bin mekim ol manmeri bilong Em yet i go ausait olsem ol sipsip. Na Em i bin stiaim ol i go long ples i no gat man olsem lain sipsip. | But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
Na Em i bin i go pas long ol, na ol i stap gut, olsem na ol i no pret. Tasol solwara i karamapim ol birua bilong ol. | And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
Na Em i bin bringim ol i kam long arere bilong ples holi bilong En, yes, long dispela maunten han sut bilong En i bin baim. | And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
Na tu Em i bin rausim i go ol haiden long pes bilong ol. Na samting ol pikinini i kisim long papa Em i bin metaim na skelim long ol. Na Em i bin mekim ol lain bilong Israel i sindaun i stap long ol haus sel bilong ol. | He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
Tasol ol i bin traim God i antap olgeta, na ol i bin kirapim belhat bilong Em. Na ol i no bin holimpas long ol testimoni bilong Em, nogat. | Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
Tasol ol i bin tanim i go bek na mekim pasin yu no inap bilip long ol olsem ol papa bilong ol. Ol i bin tanim i go long narapela hap, olsem banara i save giaman. | But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
Long wanem ol i bin wokim ol ples antap na kirapim belhat bilong Em. Na long ol i wokim ol piksa god bilong ol, ol i bin kirapim Em long jeles pasin. | For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Taim God i harim dispela, Em i belhat tru. Na Em i bin holim strongpela tingting long tromoi Israel. | When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
Olsem na Em i bin lusim haus sel holi bilong Sailo, em dispela haus sel Em i bin putim namel long ol man. | So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
Na Em i givim strong bilong En i go long kalabus. Na Em i bin givim glori bilong En long han bilong birua. | And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.
Em i bin givim ol manmeri bilong En long bainat tu. Na Em i bin stap belhat tru long ol manmeri Em i bin kisim. | He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
Paia i bin bagarapim olgeta ol yangpela man bilong ol. Na ol i no bin givim ol yangpela meri bilong ol long marit. | The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
Bainat i bin mekim ol pris bilong ol i pundaun bilong i dai. Na ol meri bilong ol dispela man i dai pinis ol i no bin mekim krai sori. | Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
Long dispela taim BIKPELA i bin kirap olsem man i kirap long slip, na olsem strongpela man i bikmaus taim em i dring wain. | Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
Na Em i bin paitim ol birua bilong En long ol hap i stap baksait. Em i bin mekim ol i kisim sem oltaim. | And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
Na moa tu Em i bin tok nogat long haus sel bilong Josep. Na Em i no bin makim lain bilong Ifraim, nogat. | Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
Tasol Em i bin makim lain bilong Juda, em maunten Saion, na Em i laikim tru dispela hap. | But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
Na Em i bin wokim haus holi bilong En olsem ol haus bilong ol king i antap, na olsem dispela graun Em i bin sanapim bilong oltaim oltaim. | And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
Em i bin makim Devit tu, em i wokboi bilong En. Devit i bin stap long ol banis bilong sipsip na Em i kisim em i kam. | He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
Devit i bin wok long bihainim ol sipsip meri i gat pikinini long bel. Na Em i bin bringim em i kam bilong givim kaikai long Jekop, lain manmeri bilong En, na long Isrel, lain manmeri Em i bin kisim long han bilong papa. | From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
Olsem na em i bin givim kaikai long ol bilong bihainim pasin i stretpela olgeta bilong bel bilong en. Na long han bilong en i gat gutpela save, em i bin soim rot long ol. | So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
