¶ Nau Joap, pikinini man bilong Seruaia, i kisim save long bel bilong king i go long Absalom. | Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom.
Na Joap i salim tok long Tekoa, na kisim long dispela hap wanpela meri i gat save tru, na tokim em, Mi askim yu plis, giaman olsem yu yet i wanpela meri i wok long soim sori, na putim nau ol naispela klos bilong soim sori, na no ken welim yu yet wantaim wel, tasol stap olsem wanpela meri husat i bin soim sori longpela taim long daiman. | And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:
Na kam long king, na toktok long dispela pasin i go long em. Olsem tasol Joap i putim ol toktok insait long maus bilong em. | And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.
Na taim meri bilong Tekoa i toktok long king, em i pundaun long pes bilong em long graun, na em i mekim pasin bilong lindaun, na tok, Helpim mi, O king. | And when the woman of Tekoah spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king.
Na king i tokim em, Wanem samting i givim hevi long yu? Na em i bekim tok, Em i tru mi stap wanpela meri man bilong em i dai pinis, na man bilong mi i dai pinis. | And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead.
Na wokmeri bilong yu i gat tupela pikinini man, na tupela ol i pait wantaim long ples kunai, na i no gat wanpela bilong brukim tupela, tasol wanpela i paitim arapela, and kilim em i dai. | And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him.
Na, lukim, famili olgeta bilong mi i kirap na birua long wokmeri bilong yu, na ol i tok, Givim em husat i paitim brata bilong em, inap long mipela i ken kilim em, bilong bekim laip bilong brata bilong em husat em i kilim i dai. Na mipela bai bagarapim olgeta dispela pikinini bilong kisim samting bilong papa tu. Na olsem tasol ol bai kilim i dai dispela sakol bilong mi i stap yet, na ol bai i no inap larim long man bilong mi wanpela nem,o wanpela samting i stap yet long dispela graun. | And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.
Na king i tokim meri, Go long haus bilong yu, na mi bai givim tok long sait bilong yu. | And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee.
Na dispela meri bilong Tekoa i tokim king, Bikman bilong mi, O king, sin nogut i mas stap antap long mi, na antap long hauslain bilong papa bilong mi. Na king na sia king bilong em bai i no gat asua. | And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father’s house: and the king and his throne be guiltless.
Na king i tok, Husat man i tokim wanpela samting long yu, bringim em long mi, na em bai i no inap tasim yu moa liklik. | And the king said, Whosoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.
Nau meri i tok, Mi askim yu plis, larim king i tingim gen BIKPELA, God bilong yu, inap long yu no bai larim ol man bilong bekim pe bilong blut i ken wokim bagarap olgeta moa liklik, nogut ol i bagarapim pikinini man bilong mi olgeta. Na em i tok, Olsem BIKPELA i stap laip, i no inap gat wanpela hap gras bilong pikinini man bilong yu bai pundaun long graun. | Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the Lord thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the Lord liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.
Nau meri i tok, Larim wokmeri bilong yu, mi askim yu plis, givim wanpela toktok moa long king, bikman bilong mi. Na em i tok, Yu tok. | Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.
Na meri i tok, Olsem wanem na nau yu bin tingting wanpela kain samting nogut i birua long ol lain bilong God? Long wanem, king i toktok long dispela samting olsem wanpela husat i gat asua, long dispela, king i no kisim i kam bek long ples gen em husat em i rausim i go. | And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king doth speak this thing as one which is faulty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished.
Long wanem, yumi mas i gat nid long dai, na yumi stap olsem wara i pundaun long graun, dispela yumi no inap bungim gen. Na tu God i no save tingim namba bilong wanpela man. Tasol Em i kamapim ol rot, inap long ol husat Em i bin rausim i go i no mas stap longwe long Em. | For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.
Olsem na nau, long mi kam long toktok long sait bilong dispela samting long king, bikman bilong mi, dispela em i bikos ol lain i bin mekim mi pret. Na wokmeri bilong yu i tok, Mi bai toktok long king nau. Em i ken kamap olsem long king bai wokim askim bilong wokmeri bilong em. | Now therefore that I am come to speak of this thing unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and thy handmaid said, I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid.
Long wanem, king bai harim, long kisim bek wokmeri bilong em ausait long han bilong man husat i gat laiklong bagarapim mi olgeta, na pikinini man bilong mi wantaim, ausait long samting bilong God papa i givim pikinini. | For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.
Nau wokmeri bilong yu i tok, Tok bilong king, bikman bilong mi, nau bai givim bel isi. Long wanem, olsem wanpela ensel bilong God, olsem tasol king, bikman bilong mi, i stap long kamap klia tru long gutpela na nogut. Olsem na BIKPELA, God bilong yu, bai stap wantaim yu. | Then thine handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: therefore the Lord thy God will be with thee.
Nau king i bekim na tokim meri, No ken haitim long mi, mi askim yu plis, dispela samting mi bai askim yu long en. Na meri i tok, Larim king, bikman bilong mi, i toktok nau. | Then the king answered and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.
Na king i tok, Ating i yes long han bilong Joap i stap wantaim yu long olgeta dispela samting? Na meri i bekim na tok, Olsem tewel bilong yu i stap laip, king, bikman bilong mi, i no gat wanpela i ken tanim long han sut o long han kais long wanpela samting long king, bikman bilong mi, i bin toktok. Long wanem, wokboi bilong yu Joap, em i tokim mi, na em i putim olgeta dispela toktok insait long maus bilong wokmeri bilong yu. | And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid:
Long kisim i kam nabaut dispela kain toktok, wokboi bilong yu Joap i bin mekim dispela samting. Na bikman bilong mi i stap saveman tru i bihainim save tru bilong wanpela ensel bilong God, long save olgeta samting long dispela graun. | To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
¶ Na king i tokim Joap, Lukim nau, mi bin mekim dispela samting. Olsem na go, bringim dispela yangpela man Absalom i kam bek gen. | And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again.
Na Joap i pundaun long graun long pes bilong em, na lindaunim em yet, na tok tenkyu long king. Na Joap i tok, Tude wokboi bilong yu i save long mi bin painim pinis marimari long ai bilong yu, bikman bilong mi, O king, long dispela, long king i bin inapim askim bilong wokboi bilong em. | And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant.
Olsem tasol Joap i kirap and go long Gesur, na bringim Absalom long Jerusalem. | So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.
Na king i tok, Larim em i tanim i go long haus bilong em yet, na no ken larim em i lukim pes bilong mi. Olsem tasol Absalom i go bek long haus bilong em yet, na em i no lukim pes bilong king. | And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king’s face.
Tasol long olgeta Isrel i no gat wanpela husat ol i inap litimapim nem bilong em olsem Absalom long naispela bilong em. Long as bilong fut bilong em, yes, i go inap long antap tru bilong het bilong em, i no gat mak nogut long em. | But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.
Na taim em i katim gras bilong het bilong em, (long wanem, em i long pinis bilong olgeta wan wan yia long em i save katim dispela, bilong wanem, gras i hevi long em, olsem na em i save katim dispela,) em i skelim gras bilong het bilong em olsem 200 sekel i bihainim skel bilong king. | And when he polled his head, (for it was at every year’s end that he polled it: because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it:) he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king’s weight.
Na long Absalom i gat tripela pikinini man ol i karim long em, na wanpela pikinini meri, husat nem bilong en em i Temar. Em i wanpela meri pes bilong em i naispela. | And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance.
¶ Olsem tasol Absalom i stap tupela yia olgeta long Jerusalem, na em i no lukim pes bilong king. | So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king’s face.
Olsem na Absalom i salim tok long Joap long kam, long salim em i go long king. Tasol em i no laik kam long em. Na taim em i salim tok gen namba tu taim, em i no laik kam. | Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he sent again the second time, he would not come.
Olsem na em i tokim ol wokboi bilong em, Lukim, bikpela gaden bilong Joap i stap klostu long bikpela gaden bilong mi, na em i gat bali long dispela hap. Go kirapim paia long en. Na ol wokboi bilong Absalom i go kirapim paia long dispela bikpela gaden. | Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab’s field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.
Nau Joap i kirap, na kam long Absalom long haus bilong em, na tokim em, Olsem wanem na ol wokboi bilong yu i bin kirapim paia long bikpela gaden bilong mi? | Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire?
Na Absalom i bekim tok long Joap, Lukim, Mi salim tok long yu, i spik, Kam hia, inap long mi ken salim yu long king, long tok, Olsem wanem na mi lusim Gesur i kam? Em i bin gutpela long mi bin stap yet long dispela hap. Olsem na nau larim mi lukim pes bilong king. Na sapos i gat wanpela sin nogut insait long mi, larim em i kilim mi. | And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.
Olsem tasol Joap i kam long king na tokim em. Na taim em i bin singautim Absalom long kam, em i kam long king, na lindaunim em yet long pes bilong em long graun long ai bilong king. Na king i givim kis long Absalom. | So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.
