1 Det begaf sig på samma tiden, at Juda for neder ifrå sina bröder, och gaf sig til en man i Adullam, som het Hira. And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
2 Och Juda såg der en Canaanesk mans dotter, han het Sua; och tog henne. And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.
3 Och då han belåg henne, wardt hon hafwande, och födde en son, den kallade hon Er. And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.
4 Och hon wardt åter hafwande, och födde en son, den kallade hon Onan. And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.
5 Åter födde hon en son, honom kallade hon Sela. Och han war i Chesib, när hon den födde. Och han war i Chesib, när hon den födde. And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.
6 Och Juda gaf sinom första sone Er ena hustru, som het Thamar. And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
7 Men Er Juda förstfödde son war arg för HERranom; derföre dödade HERren honom. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.
8 Då sade Juda til sin son Onan: Lägg dig när dins broders hustru, och tag henne til ägta, at du upwäcker dinom broder säd. And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
9 Men då Onan wisste, at säden icke skulle wara hans egen, då han låg när sins broders hustru, lät han det falla uppå jordena, och förderfwade det, at han icke skulle gifwa sinom broder säd. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
10 Då misshagade HERranom det onda han gjorde, och dödade honom och. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.
11 Då sade Juda til sina sonahustru Thamar: Blif en enka i dins faders huse, så länge Sela min son warder stor; förty han tänkte, at han til äfwentyrs måtte ock så dö såsom hans broder. Så gick Thamar bort, och blef i sins faders huse. Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
12 Då nu månge dagar förledne woro, dödde Suas dotter, Judas hustru. Och sedan Juda utsörjt hade, gick han up til at klippa sin får i Thimnath, med sin herda Hira af Adullam. And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
13 Då wardt Thamar sagdt: Si, din swär går up til Thimnath til at klippa sin får. And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.
14 Då lade hon af sin enkokläder, som hon drog, dokade sig, och förhöljde sig, och satte sig ut för porten på wägen emot Thimnath: Förty hon såg, at Sela war stor worden, och hon war icke gifwen honom til hustru. And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.
15 Då nu Juda såg henne, mente han det hade warit en sköka; förty hon hade förhöljt sitt ansikte. When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.
16 Och han wek af wägenom til henne, och sade: Käre, låt mig ligga när dig; ty han wisste icke, at det war hans sonahustru. Hon swarade: Hwad will du gifwa mig, at du ligger när mig? And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
17 Han sade: Jag will sända dig en bock ifrå hjordenom. Hon swarade: Gif mig en pant, så länge du sänder mig honom. And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?
18 Han sade: Hwad wilt du jag skall gifwa dig för en pant? Hon swarade: Din ring, och din hufwudbonad, och din staf, som du hafwer i händerna. Det gaf han henne, och låg när henne, och hon wardt hafwande af honom. And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
19 Och hon stod up, och gick dädan, och lade doken af, och tog sin enkokläder uppå igen. And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
20 Men Juda sände bocken med sin herde af Adullam, at han skulle taga igen panten ifrå qwinnonen: Och han fann henne intet. And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.
21 Då frågade han folket, som bodde wid det rummet, och sade: Hwarest är den skökan, som satt ute på wägenom? De swarade: Ingen sköka hafwer der warit. Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.
22 Och då han kom åter til Juda, och sade: Jag hafwer intet funnit henne; dertil säger folket, som der bor, at der hafwer ingen sköka warit. And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.
23 Juda sade: Hafwe sig det, at wi icke til äfwentyrs skulle komma på skam: Ty jag hafwer sändt bocken, men du hafwer icke funnit henne. And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.
24 Tre månader derefter wardt det Juda sagdt: Din sonahustru Thamar hafwer bolat; och si, i boleri är hon worden hafwande: Juda sade: Hafwer henne här fram, at hon skall brännas. And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
25 Och då hon hades fram, sände hon til sin swär och sade: Af denna mannen är jag hafwande, som detta tilhörer. Och sade: Känner du ock, hwem denne ringen och hufwudbonaden och stafwen tilhörer? When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.
26 Juda kände det, och sade: Hon är rättfärdigare än jag; ty jag hafwer icke gifwit henne min son Sela. Dock belåg han henne intet mer. And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
27 Och då hon skulle föda, funnos twillingar i hennes lifwe. And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
28 Och som hon nu födde, gaf sig en hand ut; då tog Jordgumman och band der en rödan tråd om, och sade: Denne skall först utkomma. And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
29 Men då han drog sina hand åter in, kom hans broder ut, och hon sade: Hwi är hinnan för dina skull sönderremnad? Och man kallade honom Perez. And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.
30 Derefter kom hans broder ut, som hade den röda tråden om sina hand; och man kallade honom Serah. And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
