1 Мудар је син радост оцу својему, а луд је син жалост матери својој. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2 Не помаже неправедно благо, него правда избавља од смрти. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3 Не да Господ да гладује душа праведникова, а имање безбожничко размеће. The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4 Немарна рука осиромашава, а вриједна рука обогаћава. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 Ко збира у љето, син је разуман; ко спава о жетви, син је срамотан. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6 Благослови су над главом праведнику, а уста безбожничка покрива насиље. Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 Спомен праведников остаје благословен, а име безбожничко трухне. The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 Ко је мудра срца, прима заповијести; а ко је лудијех усана, пашће. The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9 Ко ходи безазлено, ходи поуздано; а ко је опак на путовима својим, познаће се. He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 Ко намигује оком, даје муку; и ко је лудијех усана, пашће. He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11 Уста су праведникова извор животу, а уста безбожничка покрива насиље. The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Мрзост замеће свађе, а љубав прикрива све пријеступе. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 На уснама разумнога налази се мудрост, а за леђа је безумнога батина. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Мудри склањају знање, а уста лудога близу су погибли. Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 Богатство је богатима тврд град, сиромаштво је сиромасима погибао. The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 Рад је праведников на живот, добитак безбожников на гријех. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 Ко прима наставу, на путу је к животу; а ко одбацује кар, лута. He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
18 Ко покрива мржњу, лажљивих је усана; и ко износи срамоту безуман је. He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 У многим ријечима не бива без гријеха; али ко задржава усне своје, разуман је. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 Језик је праведников сребро одабрано; срце безбожничко не вриједи ништа. The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 Усне праведникове пасу многе, а безумни умиру с безумља. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22 Благослов Господњи обогаћава а без муке. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
23 Безумнику је шала чинити зло, а разуман човјек држи се мудрости. It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 Чега се боји безбожник, оно ће га снаћи; а што праведници желе Бог ће им дати. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 Као што пролази олуја, тако безбожника нестаје; а праведник је на вјечитом темељу. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 Какав је оцат зубима и дим очима, таки је љенивац онима који га шаљу. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
27 Страх Господњи додаје дане, а безбожницима се године прекраћују. The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 Чекање праведнијех радост је, а надање безбожнијех пропада. The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 Пут је Господњи крјепост безазленому, а страх онима који чине безакоње. The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 Праведник се неће нигда поколебати, а безбожници неће наставати на земљи. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 Уста праведникова износе мудрост, а језик опаки истријебиће се. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 Усне праведникове знају што је мило, а безбожничка су уста опачина. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
