1 Да, сребро има жице, и злато има мјесто гдје се топи. Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
2 Гвожђе се вади из праха, и из камена се топи мјед. Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
3 Мраку поставља међу, и све истражује човјек до краја, и камење у тами и у сјену смртном. He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
4 Ријека навре с мјеста својега да јој нико не може приступити; али се одбије и одлази трудом човјечјим. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
5 Из земље излази хљеб, и под њом је друго, као огањ. As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
6 У камену је њезину мјесто сафиру, а ондје је прах златни. The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
7 Те стазе не зна птица, нити је видје око крагујево; There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:
8 Не угази је младо звијерје, нити њом прође лав. The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
9 На кремен диже руку своју; превраћа горе из дна. He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
10 Из стијене изводи потоке, и свашта драгоцјено види му око. He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
11 Уставља ријеке да не теку, и што је сакривено износи на видјело. He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
12 Али мудрост гдје се налази? и гдје је мјесто разуму? But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
13 Не зна јој човјек цијене, нити се находи у земљи живијех. Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
14 Бездана вели: није у мени; и море вели: није код мене. The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
15 Не може се дати чисто злато за њу, нити се сребро измјерити у промјену за њу. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
16 Не може се цијенити златом Офирским, ни драгим онихом ни сафиром. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
17 Не може се изједначити с њом ни злато ни кристал, нити се може промијенити за закладе златне. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
18 Од корала и бисера нема спомена, јер је вриједност мудрости већа него драгом камењу. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
19 Не може се с њом изједначити топаз Етиопски, нити се може цијенити чистијем златом. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
20 Откуда дакле долази мудрост? и гдје је мјесто разуму? Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
21 Сакривена је од очију свакога живога, и од птица небеских заклоњена. Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
22 Погибао и смрт говоре: ушима својима чусмо славу њезину. Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
23 Бог зна пут њезин, и познаје мјесто њезино. God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
24 Јер гледа до крајева земаљских и види све што је под свијем небом. For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
25 Кад даваше вјетру тежину, и мјераше воду мјером, To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
26 Кад постављаше закон дажду и пут муњи громовној. When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
27 Још је онда видје и огласи је, уреди је и претражи је. Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
28 А човјеку рече: гле, страх је Божји мудрост, и уклањати се ода зла јест разум. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
