1	가인과 아벨 아담이 자기 아내 하와와 동침하니, 아내가 임신하여, 가인을 낳았다. 하와가 말하였다. "주의 도우심으로, 내가 남자 아이를 얻었다."	And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2	하와는 또 가인의 아우 아벨을 낳았다. 아벨은 양을 치는 목자가 되고, 가인은 밭을 가는 농부가 되었다.	And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3	세월이 지난 뒤에, 가인은 땅에서 거둔 곡식을 주께 제물로 바치고,	And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4	아벨은 양 떼 가운데서 맏배의 기름기를 바쳤다. 주께서 아벨과 그가 바친 제물은 반기셨으나,	And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5	가인과 그가 바친 제물은 반기지 않으셨다. 그래서 가인은 몹시 화가 나서, 얼굴색이 변하였다.	But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6	주께서 가인에게 말씀하셨다. "어찌하여 네가 화를 내느냐? 얼굴색이 변하는 까닭이 무엇이냐?	And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7	네가 올바른 일을 하였다면, 어찌하여 얼굴을 펴지 못하느냐? 그러나 네가 올바르지 못한 일을 하였으니, 죄가 너의 문에 도사리고 앉아서, 너를 지배하려고 하니, 너는 그 죄를 잘 다스려야 한다."	If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8	가인이 아우 아벨에게 말하였다. "우리 들로 나가자." 그들이 들에 있을 때에, 가인이 그의 아우 아벨을 쳐죽였다.	And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9	주께서 가인에게 물으셨다. "너의 아우 아벨이 어디에 있느냐?" 그가 대답하였다. "모릅니다. 제가 아우를 지키는 사람입니까?"	And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10	주께서 말씀하셨다. "네가 무슨 일을 저질렀느냐? 너의 아우의 피가 땅에서 나에게 울부짖는다.	And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11	이제 네가 땅에서 저주를 받을 것이다. 땅이 그 입을 벌려서, 너의 아우의 피를 너의 손에서 받아 마셨다.	And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12	네가 밭을 갈아도, 땅이 이제는 너에게 효력을 더 나타내지 않을 것이다. 너는 이 땅 위에서 쉬지도 못하고, 떠돌아다니게 될 것이다."	When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13	가인이 주께 말씀드렸다. "이 형벌은, 제가 짊어지기에 너무 무겁습니다.	And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14	오늘 이 땅에서 저를 쫓아내시니, 하나님을 뵙지도 못하고, 이 땅 위에서 쉬지도 못하고, 떠돌아다니게 될 것입니다. 그렇게 되면, 저를 만나는 사람마다 저를 죽이려고 할 것입니다."	Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15	주께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "그렇지 않다. 가인을 죽이는 자는 일곱 갑절로 벌을 받을 것이다." 주께서는 가인에게 표를 찍어 주셔서, 어느 누가 그를 만나더라도, 그를 죽이지 못하게 하셨다.	And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16	가인은 주 앞을 떠나서, 에덴의 동쪽 놋 땅에서 살았다.	And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17	가인의 자손 가인이 자기 아내와 동침하니, 아내가 임신하여 에녹을 낳았다. 그 때에, 가인은 도시를 세우고, 그 도시를 자기 아들의 이름을 따서 에녹이라고 하였다.	And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18	에녹은 이랏을 낳고, 이랏은 므후야엘을 낳고, 므후야엘은 므드사엘을 낳고, 므드사엘은 라멕을 낳았다.	And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19	라멕은 두 아내와 함께 살았다. 한 아내의 이름은 아다이고, 또 한 아내의 이름은 씰라이다.	And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20	아다는 야발을 낳았는데, 그는 장막을 치고 살면서, 집짐승을 치는 사람의 조상이 되었다.	And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21	그의 아우의 이름은 유발인데, 유발은 수금을 타고 퉁소를 부는 모든 사람의 조상이 되었다.	And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22	또한 씰라는 두발가인이라는 아이를 낳았다. 그는 구리나 쇠를 가지고, 온갖 기구를 만드는 사람이다. 두발가인에게는 나아마라고 하는 누이가 있었다.	And Zillah, she also bare Tubal–cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal–cain was Naamah.
23	라멕이 자기 아내들에게 말하였다. "아다와 씰라는 내 말을 들어라. 라멕의 아내들은, 내가 말할 때에 귀를 기울여라. 나에게 상처를 입힌 남자를 내가 죽였다. 나를 상하게 한 젊은 남자를 내가 죽였다.	And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24	가인을 해친 벌이 일곱 갑절이면, 라멕을 해치는 벌은 일흔일곱 갑절이다."	If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25	셋과 에노스 아담이 다시 자기 아내와 동침하였다. 마침내, 그의 아내가 아들을 낳고 말하기를 "하나님이, 가인에게 죽은 아벨 대신에, 다른 씨를 나에게 허락하셨구나" 하였다. 그의 아내는 아이의 이름을 셋이라고 하였다.	And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26	셋도 아들을 낳고, 아이의 이름을 에노스라고 하였다. 그 때에 비로소, 사람들이 주의 이름을 불러 예배하기 시작하였다.	And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
