1	유다의 아달랴 여왕(대하 22:10-23:15) 아하시야의 어머니 아달랴는 아들이 죽는 것을 보자, 왕족을 다 죽이기 시작하였다.	And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
2	그러나 왕자들이 살해되는 가운데서도, 여호람 왕의 딸이요 아하시야의 누이인 여호세바가, 아하시야의 아들 요아스를 몰래 빼내어, 유모와 함께 침실에 숨겼다. 이 때에 사람들이, 아달랴가 모르도록 그를 숨겼으므로, 그는 죽음을 면할 수 있었다.	But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
3	요아스는 그의 고모 여호세바와 함께 여섯 해 동안을 주의 성전에 숨어 지냈으며, 그 동안 나라는 아달랴가 다스렸다.	And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.
4	일곱째 해가 되자, 여호야다 제사장이 사람을 보내어 가리 사람의 백부장들과 호위병의 백부장들을 불러왔다. 그리고 그들을 주의 성전에 있는 왕자에게로 데리고 가서, 그들과 더불어 언약을 맺고, 또 주의 성전에서 맹세를 하게 한 뒤에, 그들에게 왕자를 보여 주었다.	And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the king’s son.
5	그리고는 그들에게 이렇게 명령을 내렸다. "이제 여러분이 해야 할 일을 말하겠습니다. 여러분 가운데서 안식일 당번을 세 반으로 나누어, 삼분의 일은 왕궁을 지키고,	And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;
6	다른 삼분의 일은 수르 성문을 지키고, 나머지 삼분의 일은 호위병들의 뒤에 있는 문을 지키십시오. 이와 같이 하여 왕궁을 철저히 지키게 하도록 하십시오.	And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
7	그리고 안식일 비번은 모두 두 반으로 나누어서, 임금님께서 계신 주의 성전을 지키도록 하십시오.	And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8	각자 무기를 들고 임금님을 호위할 것이며, 누구든지 대열 안으로 들어오려는 사람은 반드시 죽이고, 임금님께서 나가고 드실 때에는 반드시 경호하도록 하십시오."	And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
9	백부장들은 여호야다 제사장이 명령한 것을 그대로 다 하였다. 그리고 그들은 안식일 당번인 사람들과 안식일 비번인 사람들을 데리고 여호야다 제사장에게로 왔다.	And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10	제사장이 백부장들에게 창과 방패를 나누어 주었다. 그것은 다윗 왕의 것으로서, 주의 성전 안에 간직되어 있던 것들이다.	And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the Lord.
11	그리하여 호위병들은 각각 손에 무기를 들고, 성전 오른쪽에서부터 왼쪽까지 제단과 성전 주위를 감시하며, 왕을 호위하였다.	And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
12	그런 다음에 여호야다 제사장이 왕세자를 데리고 나와서, 그에게 왕관을 씌우고, 왕의 직무를 규정한 규례서를 주고, 기름을 부어 왕으로 삼으니, 백성이 손뼉을 치며 "임금님, 만세!" 하고 외쳤다.	And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
13	아달랴가 호위병들과 백성의 소리를 듣고, 주의 성전에 모여 있는 백성에게 가서	And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the Lord.
14	보니, 왕이 대관식 규례에 따라 기둥 곁에 서 있고, 관리들과 나팔수들도 왕을 모시고 서 있고, 나라의 모든 백성이 기뻐하며 나팔을 불고 있었다. 아달랴가 분을 참지 못하고 옷을 찢으며 "반역이다! 반역이다!" 하고 외쳤다.	And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.
15	그 때에 여호야다 제사장이 군대를 거느린 백부장들에게 명령을 내렸다. "저 여자를 대열 밖으로 끌어내시오. 그리고 저 여자를 따르는 사람은 누구든지 칼로 쳐죽이시오." 여호야다가, 주의 성전에서는 그 여자를 죽이지 말라고 하였으므로,	But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.
16	그들은 그 여자를 끌어내어, 군마가 드나드는 길을 통해 왕궁으로 들어가, 거기에서 그 여자를 처형하였다.	And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
17	여호야다의 개혁(대하 23:16-21) 여호야다는, 이스라엘 백성이 주의 백성이 되는 언약을, 주와 왕과 백성 사이에 맺게 하고, 동시에 왕과 백성 사이에도 언약을 맺게 하였다.	And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.
18	그렇게 하고 난 다음에, 그 땅의 온 백성이 바알의 신전으로 몰려가서, 그 신전을 허물고, 제단을 뒤엎고, 신상들을 완전히 부수어 버렸다. 또 그들은 제단 앞에서 바알의 제사장 맛단을 죽였다.그리고 여호야다 제사장은 주의 성전에 경비병들을 세웠다.	And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.
19	그리고 그는 백부장들과 가리 사람들과 호위병들과 그 땅의 모든 백성을 거느리고, 왕을 인도하여 주의 성전에서 데리고 나와서, 호위병들이 지키는 문을 지나, 왕궁으로 행진하여 들어갔다. 왕이 왕좌에 오르자,	And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
20	그 땅의 모든 백성이 기뻐하였다. 아달랴가 왕궁에서 칼에 맞아 살해된 뒤로, 도성은 평온을 되찾았다.	And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
21	요아스가 왕위에 올랐을 때에, 그는 일곱 살이었다.	Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
