1	아합의 자손이 살해되다 아합의 아들 일흔 명이 사마리아에 살고 있었다. 예후가 편지를 써서 사본을 만들어, 사마리아에 있는 이스르엘의 관리들과 원로들과 아합의 아들들을 보호하고 있는 사람들에게 보냈다.	And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,
2	"너희는 너희가 섬기는 상전의 아들들을 데리고 있다. 병거와 말과 요새화된 성읍과 무기도 가지고 있다. 이제 이 편지가 너희에게 가거든,	Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3	너희는 너희 상전의 아들들 가운데서 가장 훌륭하고 적합한 인물을 찾아서 그의 아버지의 왕좌에 앉히고, 너희는 너희가 섬기는 상전의 가문을 편들어서 싸우도록 하여라."	Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4	이에 사마리아의 지도급 인사들은 두려워하며 말하였다. "저 두 왕도 그를 당하지 못하였는데, 우리가 무슨 수로 그와 맞설 수 있겠소?"	But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5	그리하여 왕가를 지키는 사람들과 성읍을 다스리는 사람들과 장로들과 왕자들을 보호하는 사람들이, 예후에게 다음과 같은 전갈을 보냈다. "우리는 장군의 신하입니다. 장군께서 우리에게 말하는 것은, 무엇이든지 모두 그대로 하겠습니다. 우리는 어떠한 왕도 세우지 않겠습니다. 장군께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 하십시오."	And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6	예후가 그들에게 다음과 같이 두 번째 편지를 써서 보냈다. "너희가 내 편이 되어 내 명령을 따르겠다면, 너희 군주의 아들들의 목을 베어서, 내일 이맘때까지, 이스르엘에 있는 나에게로 가져 오너라." 그 때에 왕자들 일흔 명은 그들을 키워 준 그 성읍의 지도자들과 함께 있었다.	Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7	편지가 성읍의 지도자들에게 전달되자, 그들은 그 왕자들을 잡아서 일흔 명을 모두 죽인 다음에, 그들의 머리를 광주리에 담아서, 이스르엘에 있는 예후에게 보냈다.	And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8	전령이 와서 예후에게, 그들이 왕자들의 머리를 가져 왔다고 알리니, 예후가 말하였다. "그 머리들을 두 무더기로 나누어, 아침까지 성읍 어귀에 두어라."	And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9	아침이 되었을 때에, 예후는 나가서 모든 백성에게 말하였다. "나는 내 옛 주인에게 역모를 꾀하여, 그를 죽였습니다. 백성들에게는 아무 잘못이 없습니다. 그러나 여기에 있는 이 모든 사람은 누가 죽였습니까?	And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10	백성 여러분은 아합의 가문을 두고 말씀하신 주의 말씀이, 그 어느 것 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 않았다는 사실만은 알아야 합니다. 주께서는 그의 종 엘리야를 시켜 하신 말씀을 모두 이루셨습니다."	Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11	그런 다음에 예후는, 이스르엘에 남아 있는 아합 가문에 속한 사람을 모두 쳐죽였다. 또 아합 가문의 관리들과 친지들과 제사장들을 하나도 남기지 않고 모두 죽였다.	So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12	아하시야 왕의 친족이 살해되다 그 다음에 예후가 이스르엘을 떠나 사마리아로 가는 길에 벳에켓하로임에 이르렀다.	And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13	예후는 거기에서 이미 살해된 유다의 아하시야 왕의 형제들을 만나, 그들이 누구인지를 물었다. 그들이 대답하였다. "우리는 아하시야의 형제들로서, 이세벨 왕후와 왕자들과 왕의 친족들에게 문안을 드리러 내려왔습니다."	Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14	그러자 예후는 "그들을 생포하라" 하고 명령하였다. 부하들은 그들을 생포하여, 벳에켓의 한 구덩이에 넣어 죽였는데, 무려 마흔두 명이나 되는 사람을 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았다.	And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15	아합의 나머지 친족이 살해되다 예후가 그 곳을 떠나서 가다가, 그를 만나러 오는 레갑의 아들 여호나답을 만났다. 예후가 그에게 안부를 물으며 말하였다. "내가 그대를 진심으로 믿듯이, 그대도 그러하오?" 그러자 여호나답이, 그렇다고 대답하였다. 예후는, 그렇다면 손을 내밀라고 하였다. 그가 손을 내미니, 그를 수레에 올라오게 하였다.	And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16	그런 다음에 예후가 말하였다. "나와 함께 가서, 주님을 향한 나의 열심이 어느 정도인지를 보도록 하시오." 예후는 여호나답을 자기의 병거에 태워 나란히 앉았다.	And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17	그리고 그는 사마리아에 이르러서, 거기에 남아 있는 아합의 지지자를 모두 죽였다. 이 모든 것은 주께서 엘리야에게 말씀하신 대로 이루어진 것이다.	And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18	바알 숭배자들이 살해되다 예후는 백성을 다 모아 놓고 말하였다. "아합은 바알을 조금밖에 섬기지 않았지만, 이 예후는 그보다 더 열심으로 섬기겠습니다.	And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19	그러니 이제 바알의 예언자들과 종들과 제사장들을 모두 나에게 불러다 주십시오. 바알에게 성대하게 제사를 드리려고 합니다. 그러므로 한 사람도 빠져서는 안 됩니다. 빠지는 사람은 어느 누구든지 살아 남지 못할 것입니다." 예후는 바알의 종들을 진멸하려고 이러한 계책을 꾸민 것이다.	Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20	예후가 계속하여 말하였다. "바알을 섬길 거룩한 집회를 열도록 하시오." 그러자 집회가 공포되었다.	And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21	예후가 이스라엘 모든 곳에 사람을 보냈으므로, 바알의 종들이 하나도 빠지지 않고 모두 왔다. 그들이 바알의 신전으로 들어가자, 바알의 신전은 이 끝에서부터 저 끝까지 가득 찼다.	And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22	예후가 예복을 관리하는 사람에게 "여기 모인 바알의 종들이 입을 예복을 모두 가져 오너라" 하고 명령하였다. 그들에게 입힐 예복을 가져 오니,	And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23	예후와 레갑의 아들 여호나답은 바알의 신전으로 들어가서, 바알의 종들에게 말하였다. "여기 여러분 가운데 주를 섬기는 종들이 있지나 않은지 살펴보십시오. 여기에는 다만 바알의 종들만 있어야 합니다."	And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24	이렇게 하여 그들이 제사와 번제를 드리려고 신전 안으로 들어갔을 때에, 예후는 밖에서 여든 명의 군인을 포진시켜 놓고, 말하였다. "내가 너희 손에 넘겨 준 사람을 하나라도 놓치는 사람은, 그가 대신 목숨을 잃을 것이다."	And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25	번제를 드리는 일이 끝나자, 예후는 호위병들과 시종무관들에게 말하였다. "들어가서 그들을 쳐라. 하나도 살아 나가지 못하게 하여라." 그러자 호위병들과 시종무관들은 그들을 칼로 쳐서 바깥으로 내던졌다. 그리고는 바알 신전의 지성소에까지 들어가서,	And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26	바알 신전의 우상들을 끌어내어 불태웠다.	And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27	바알의 우상들을 깨뜨렸을 뿐만 아니라, 바알의 신전을 헐어서 변소로 만들기까지 하였는데, 이것이 오늘까지도 그대로 있다.	And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28	이렇게 하여 예후는 바알 종교를 이스라엘로부터 쓸어 내었다.	Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29	그러나 예후는, 베델과 단에 세운 금송아지를 섬겨 이스라엘로 하여금 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄로부터, 완전히 돌아서지는 못하였다.	Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth–el, and that were in Dan.
30	주께서 예후에게 말씀하셨다. "너는, 내가 보기에 일을 바르게 잘 하여, 내 마음에 들도록 아합의 가문을 잘 처리하였으니, 네 사 대 자손까지는 이스라엘의 왕위를 지키게 될 것이다."	And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31	그러나 예후는, 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 율법을 지키는 일에 마음을 다 기울이지는 못하였고, 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 여로보암의 죄로부터 돌아서지는 못하였다.	But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32	예후가 죽다 이 때부터 주께서는 이스라엘을 조금씩 찢어 내기 시작하셨다. 그래서 하사엘이 이스라엘의 국경 사방에서 공격해 왔다.	In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33	그는 요단 강 동쪽 지역인, 갓 사람과 르우벤 사람과 므낫세 사람이 있는 길르앗의 모든 땅, 곧 아르논 강에 맞붙어 있는 아로엘에서부터 길르앗과 바산까지 공격하였다.	From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34	예후의 나머지 행적과 그가 한 모든 일과, 그가 권세를 누린 일들은 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 모두 기록되었다.	Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35	예후가 죽으니, 사마리아에 안장하였고, 그의 아들 여호아하스가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.	And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36	예후는 사마리아에서 스물여덟 해 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸다.	And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
