절	새번역 (2001)	King James Version
1	그리스도는 우리의 중보자 나의 자녀 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이렇게 쓰는 것은, 여러분으로 하여금 죄를 짓지 않도록 하려는 것입니다. 누가 죄를 짓더라도, 아버지 앞에서 변호해 주시는 분이 우리에게 계시는데, 곧 의로우신 예수 그리스도이십니다.	My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2	그는 우리 죄를 위한 화목제물이시니, 우리 죄만 위한 것이 아니라 온 세상을 위한 것입니다.	And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3	우리가 하나님의 계명을 지키면, 이것으로 우리가 하나님을 참으로 알고 있음을 알게 됩니다.	And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4	하나님을 알고 있다고 하면서, 하나님의 계명을 지키지 아니하는 사람은 거짓말쟁이요, 그 사람 속에는 진리가 없습니다.	He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5	그러나 누구든지 하나님의 말씀을 지키면, 그 사람 속에서는 하나님께 대한 사랑이 참으로 완성됩니다. 이것으로 우리가 하나님 안에 있음을 압니다.	But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6	하나님 안에 있다고 하는 사람은 자기도 그리스도께서 사신 것과 같이 마땅히 그렇게 살아가야 합니다.	He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7	새 계명 사랑하는 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 써 보내는 것은, 새 계명이 아니라, 여러분이 처음부터 가진 옛 계명입니다. 그 옛 계명은 여러분이 들은 그 말씀입니다.	Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8	나는 다시 여러분에게 새 계명을 써 보냅니다. 이 새 계명은 하나님께도 참되고 여러분에게도 참됩니다. 어둠이 지나가고, 참 빛이 벌써 비치고 있기 때문입니다.	Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9	빛 가운데 있다고 말하면서 자기 형제자매를 미워하는 사람은 아직도 어둠 속에 있습니다.	He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10	자기 형제자매를 사랑하는 사람은 빛 가운데 머물러 있으니, 그 사람 앞에는 올무가 없습니다.	He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11	자기 형제자매를 미워하는 사람은 어둠 속에 있고, 어둠 속을 걷고 있으니, 자기가 어디로 가는지를 알지 못합니다. 어둠이 그의 눈을 가렸기 때문입니다.	But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12	자녀 된 이 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 그의 이름으로 여러분의 죄가 용서함을 받았기 때문입니다.	I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
13	아버지 된 이 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 여러분이 태초부터 계신 분을 알고 있기 때문입니다. 젊은이 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 여러분이 이미 악한 자를 이겼기 때문입니다.	I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14	어린이 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 여러분이 이미 하늘 아버지를 알고 있기 때문입니다. 아버지 된 이 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 여러분이 태초부터 계신 분을 알고 있기 때문입니다. 젊은이 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 여러분이 강하고 하나님의 말씀이 여러분 속에 있어서, 여러분이 그 악한 자를 이겼기 때문입니다.	I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
15	여러분은 세상이나 세상에 있는 것들을 사랑하지 마십시오. 누가 세상을 사랑하면, 그 사람 속에는 하늘 아버지에 대한 사랑이 없습니다.	Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16	세상에 있는 모든 것, 곧 육체의 욕망과 눈의 욕망과 세상 살림에 대한 자랑은 모두 하늘 아버지에게서 온 것이 아니라, 세상에서 온 것이기 때문입니다.	For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17	이 세상도 사라지고, 이 세상의 욕망도 사라지지만, 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 사람은 영원히 남습니다.	And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18	그리스도의 적대자 어린이 여러분, 지금은 마지막 때입니다. 여러분이 그리스도의 적대자가 올 것이라는 말을 들은 것과 같이, 지금 그리스도의 적대자가 많이 생겼습니다. 그래서 우리는 지금이 마지막 때임을 압니다.	Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19	그들이 우리에게서 갔지만, 그들은 우리에게 속한 자들이 아니었습니다. 그들이 우리에게 속한 자들이었더라면, 그들은 우리와 함께 그대로 남아 있었을 것입니다. 그러나 결국에는 그들은 모두 우리에게 속한 자들이 아니라는 사실이 드러나게 되었습니다.	They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20	여러분은 거룩하신 분에게서 기름 부으심을 받아, 모든 것을 알고 있습니다.	But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21	여러분이 진리를 알지 못한다고 해서 여러분에게 내가 이렇게 써 보내는 것이 아닙니다. 오히려 여러분이 진리를 알고 있기 때문에, 그리고 또한 여러분이 거짓은 모두 진리에서 나오지 않는다는 것을 알고 있기 때문에 이렇게 써 보내는 것입니다.	I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22	누가 거짓말쟁이입니까? 예수가 그리스도이심을 부인하는 사람이 아니고 누구겠습니까? 아버지와 아들을 부인하는 사람이 곧 그리스도의 적대자입니다.	Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23	누구든지 아들을 부인하는 사람은, 아버지를 모시고 있지 않은 사람이요, 아들을 시인하는 사람은, 아버지를 또한 모시고 있는 사람입니다.	Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24	여러분이 처음부터 들은 것을 여러분 속에 간직하십시오. 여러분이 처음부터 들은 그것이 여러분 속에 있으면, 여러분도 아들과 아버지 안에 있게 될 것입니다.	Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25	이것은 그가 친히 우리에게 주신 약속인데, 곧 영원한 생명입니다.	And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
26	나는 여러분을 미혹하는 자들에 관하여 이렇게 썼습니다.	These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27	여러분으로 말하자면, 그가 기름 부어 주신 것이 여러분 속에 머물러 있으니, 여러분은 아무에게서도 가르침을 받을 필요가 없습니다. 그가 기름 부어 주신 것이 여러분에게 모든 것을 가르쳐 줍니다. 그리고 그 가르침은 참이요, 거짓이 아닙니다. 여러분은 그 가르침대로 언제나 그리스도 안에 머물러 있으십시오.	But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28	하나님의 자녀 그러므로 자녀 된 이 여러분, 그리스도 안에 머물러 있으십시오. 그렇게 해야 그가 나타나실 때에 우리가 담대함을 가지게 될 것이며, 그가 오실 때에 그 앞에서 부끄러움을 당하지 않을 것입니다.	And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29	여러분이 하나님께서 의로우신 분임을 알면, 의를 행하는 사람은 누구나 다 하나님에게서 났음을 알 것입니다.	If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
