1	모세가 지팡이로 므리바 바위에서 물이 솟아나게 하다 이스라엘 사람들의 온 무리가 신 광야에서 길을 나섰다. 여호와의 명령을 따라 조금씩 계속 나아갔다. 그러다가 르비딤에 진을 쳤는데, 백성이 마실 물이 없었다.	And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
2	그래서 백성은 모세와 다투며 말했다. “우리에게 물을 주세요, 우리가 마시도록요!” 모세가 그들에게 말했다. “왜 그대들은 나와 다툽니까? 왜 여호와를 시험합니까?”	Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord?
3	그렇지만 백성은 거기서 목이 말라 물을 찾았다. 백성은 모세에게 투덜대며 이렇게 말했다. “당신은 우리를 도대체 왜 이집트에서 데리고 나왔나요? 우리와 우리 자녀와 짐승 떼가 목말라 죽게 할 셈인가요?”	And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
4	모세는 여호와께 부르짖어 여쭈었다. “이 백성을 제가 어찌해야 합니까? 조금 있으면 그들이 저에게 돌을 던질 것입니다.”	And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
5	여호와께서 모세에게 대답하셨다. “백성 앞으로 지나가거라. 이스라엘의 원로 몇 사람도 데리고 가거라. 나일강을 쳤던 그 지팡이를 손에 쥐고 가거라.	And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
6	보라, 내가 호렙산의 바위 위, 거기에서 네 앞에 서 있을 것이다. 너는 그 바위를 쳐라. 그러면 거기서 물이 솟아나서, 백성이 마실 수 있을 것이다.” 모세는 이스라엘 원로들의 눈앞에서 그렇게 했다.	Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7	그는 그곳 이름을 맛사와 므리바라고 지어 불렀다. 이스라엘 사람들이 다투며 여호와를 시험해 보았기 때문이다. “우리 가운데 여호와께서 계시기는 한 것인가?”라고 말했던 것이다.	And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?
8	이스라엘이 아말렉과 싸워 이기다 그때 아말렉이 와서, 르비딤에서 이스라엘과 싸웠다.	Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9	모세가 여호수아에게 말했다. “우리를 위해 사람들을 뽑아라. 그러고는 나가서 아말렉과 싸워라. 내일 내가 하나님의 지팡이를 손에 쥐고 언덕 꼭대기에 서 있을 것이다.”	And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10	여호수아는 모세가 말한 대로 하여 아말렉과 싸웠다. 모세와 아론과 후르는 언덕 꼭대기로 올라갔다.	So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11	모세가 손을 들어 올리면 이스라엘이 이기고, 모세가 손을 내리면 아말렉이 이겼다.	And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12	그런데 모세의 양손이 무거워지자, 그들은 돌을 가져다가 모세 밑에 놓았다. 모세가 그 위에 앉고, 아론과 후르가 이쪽과 저쪽에서 모세의 손을 붙잡아 주었다. 그래서 모세의 양손은 해가 질 때까지 움직이지 않았다.	But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13	여호수아는 날카로운 칼로 아말렉과 그의 백성을 무찔렀다.	And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14	여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “이 일을 기억하도록 두루마리에 적어 두어라. 여호수아에게는 단단히 일러 주어라, 아말렉에 대한 기억을 내가 하늘 아래에서 완전히 지워 버릴 것이라고.”	And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15	모세가 제단을 만들어 그 이름을 여호와닛시라고 지어 불렀다.	And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it JEHOVAH–nissi:
16	그리고 모세가 말했다. “여호와의 깃발을 향해 손을 듭시다. 여호와께서 아말렉과 대대로 싸우실 것입니다.”	For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
