1	보디발의 아내의 모함으로 요셉이 감옥에 갇히다 요셉은 끌려 이집트로 내려갔다. 파라오의 왕궁 관리 호위대장으로 이집트 사람인 보디발이 요셉을 샀다. 그리로 데리고 내려온 이스마엘 사람들의 손에서 샀다.	And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.
2	여호와께서 요셉과 함께 계셔서, 그는 늘 잘되는 사람이 되었다. 요셉은 주인인 이집트 사람의 집에 머물렀다.	And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3	주인이 보니, 여호와께서 요셉과 함께 계셨다. 그래서 그가 하는 일은 무엇이든 그의 손에서 잘되게 해 주셨다.	And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4	요셉은 주인의 눈에 들었고 주인을 잘 섬겼다. 주인은 그에게 자신의 집을 돌보게 했고, 자신에게 있는 것을 다 그의 손에 맡겼다.	And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
5	요셉에게 자신의 집과 자신에게 있는 것을 다 돌보게 한 뒤로 여호와께서 그 이집트 사람의 집에 복을 내리셨다. 요셉 때문이었다. 여호와께서 내리신 복이, 그에게 있는 모든 것에 미쳤다. 집 안에서든 들에서든 그랬다.	And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6	주인은 자신에게 있는 것을 다 요셉의 손에 맡겼다. 자신이 먹는 음식 말고는 그 무엇도 요셉이 어떻게 하든지 알려고 하지 않았다. 요셉은 생김새가 아름답고 모습도 빼어났다.	And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
7	이런 일들이 있은 뒤였다. 주인의 아내가 요셉에게 눈길을 주면서 말했다. “내 곁에 누워 봐요!”	And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
8	요셉은 뿌리치면서 주인의 아내에게 대답했다. “보십시오, 집안일이라면 제가 무엇을 어떻게 하든 주인님이 알려고 하지 않으십니다. 주인님께 있는 것을 다 제 손에 맡기셨습니다.	But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
9	이 집에서 저보다 더 큰 영향력을 지닌 사람은 없습니다. 주인님이 저한테 손대지 못하게 하신 것은 아무것도 없습니다, 당신만 빼놓고요. 바로 당신은 주인님의 아내이시니까요. 그런데 어떻게 제가 이처럼 아주 나쁜 짓을 저질러 하나님께 죄를 지을 수 있겠습니까?”	There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
10	그 여자가 날마다 요셉에게 말을 건넸지만 요셉은 듣지 않았다. 그 곁에 눕기는커녕 함께 있지도 않았다.	And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
11	하루는 요셉이 일을 처리하러 그 집으로 들어갔다. 그런데 거기 그 집 안에 하인들이 하나도 없었다.	And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
12	보디발의 아내가 요셉의 옷을 붙잡고는 말했다. “나와 함께 누워요!” 요셉은 옷을 그의 손에 남겨 둔 채 달아나 밖으로 나갔다.	And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
13	보디발의 아내가 보니, 요셉이 옷을 자신의 손에 남겨 둔 채 밖으로 달아나는 것이 아닌가!	And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
14	그 순간 그 여자가 집 하인들을 불러 말했다. “보아라, 주인이 히브리 사내를 우리에게 데려다 놓고서는 우리를 비웃음거리로 만들었구나. 그 녀석이 나에게 와서 나와 함께 누우려고 하길래 내가 큰 소리로 비명을 질렀어.	That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:
15	내가 소리를 높여 비명을 지르자 그가 듣고는, 자기 옷을 내 곁에 버려두고 달아나 밖으로 나가 버렸어.”	And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.
16	보디발의 아내는 그 옷을 자신의 곁에 두었다. 마침내 남편이 집에 돌아왔다.	And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.
17	그러자 이 모든 일을 남편에게 말했다. “그 히브리 노예가 내가 있는 데로 들어왔어요. 당신이 우리에게 데려다 놓은 그가 나를 비웃음거리로 만들려고 말이에요.	And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:
18	내가 소리를 높여 비명을 지르자, 자기 옷을 내 곁에 버려두고 밖으로 달아났어요.”	And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.
19	보디발은 아내의 말, 곧 “이게 다 당신의 노예가 나에게 한 짓이라고요!” 하는 말을 들었다. 그 순간 보디발은 노여움으로 불타올랐다.	And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
20	요셉의 주인은 요셉을 붙잡아 감옥에 집어넣었다. 임금의 죄수들이 갇혀 있는 곳이었다. 요셉은 거기 감옥에서 지냈다.	And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
21	그러나 여호와께서 요셉과 함께하시고 그에게 한결같은 사랑을 베푸셔서, 요셉을 감옥지기의 눈에 들게 하셨다.	But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22	감옥지기는 감옥에 있는 모든 죄수를 요셉의 손에 맡겼다. 그래서 거기서 해 오던 모든 일을 요셉이 담당했다.	And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
23	감옥지기는 요셉의 손에 맡긴 일을 아예 살펴보지도 않았다. 여호와께서 요셉과 함께하셨기 때문이다. 요셉이 하는 일마다 여호와께서 잘되게 해 주셨다.	The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.
