1	사라에게 아들이 있을 것이라고 하시다 여호와께서 마므레의 참나무들이 있는 곳에서 아브라함에게 나타나셨다. 마침 아브라함이 천막 입구에 앉아 있었다. 뜨거운 한낮이었다.	And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2	그가 눈길을 돌려 살펴보았다. 그런데, 저기, 앞쪽에 사람 셋이 서 있는 것이 아닌가! 아브라함이 그들을 보고서는 맞이하러 천막 입구에서 달려 나가 땅에 엎드려 절했다.	And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3	그러고는 말했다. “손님, 저를 괜찮게 보신다면, 저희 집에 들르시지요.	And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4	물을 조금 가져다드릴게요. 손님들의 발을 씻고 나무 아래 편히 앉으세요.	Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5	빵도 조금 가져다드리겠습니다. 드시고 기운을 차리세요. 그런 다음에 가시지요. 일단 저희 집에 들르셨으니까요.” 그러자 그들이 대답했다. “주인장이 말씀하신 대로 하지요.”	And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6	아브라함은 서둘러 천막에 돌아가 사라에게 부탁했다. “얼른 고운 밀가루 21리터를 치대어서 빵을 구워요!”	And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7	또 아브라함은 소 떼한테로 달려가서, 부드럽고 좋은 송아지를 골라 하인에게 끌어다 주었다. 하인이 서둘러 요리했다.	And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8	아브라함은 요구르트와 우유를 가져왔다. 하인이 요리한 송아지도 가져와 손님들 앞에 놓았다. 아브라함은 나무 아래에 서서 손님들을 시중들고, 손님들은 음식을 먹었다.	And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
9	그들이 아브라함에게 물었다. “주인장의 아내 사라는 어디에 계시오?” 아브라함이 대답했다. “저기 천막 안에 있습니다.”	And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10	한 손님이 말했다. “해를 넘겨 이때쯤 주인장에게 반드시 다시 오겠소. 그러면, 보시오, 주인장의 아내 사라에게 아들이 있을 것이오.” 사라는 아브라함 뒤의 천막 입구에서 듣고 있었다.	And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11	아브라함과 사라는 늙어 나이가 많았다. 사라는 생리가 그친 상태였다.	Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12	사라가 속으로 웃으며 중얼거렸다. “힘이 바닥났는데 성욕이 내게 있겠는가? 주인 양반도 늙었고.”	Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13	여호와께서 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. “왜 사라가 웃으면서 중얼거렸는가? ‘내가 정말 아이를 낳을 수 있다는 건가, 난 늙었는데?’라고.	And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14	여호와에게 어려워서 못 할 일이 있겠느냐? 때에 맞추어 너에게 다시 오겠다, 해를 넘겨 이때쯤에. 그때 사라에게 아들이 있을 것이다.”	Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15	사라는 잡아떼며 “웃지 않았어요.” 하고 말했다. 두려웠기 때문이다. 그러자 여호와께서 “아니다. 분명히 웃었다.” 하고 말씀하셨다.	Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
16	아브라함이 소돔을 위해 여러 번 간청하다 그 사람들이 거기서 일어나 소돔 쪽을 내려다보았다. 아브라함은 그들을 바래다주느라 함께 걷고 있었다.	And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
17	여호와께서 말씀하셨다. “내가 하려는 일을 아브라함에게 숨기고 있어야 할까?	And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18	아브라함은 반드시 크고 강한 민족을 이루고, 땅의 모든 민족이 아브라함 덕분에 복받을 텐데.	Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19	내가 그를 골라 뽑았으니까. 그가 자신을 뒤이을 자손들과 집안사람들에게 단단히 일러 주어, 그들이 여호와의 길을 지켜 공의와 정의를 실행하게 하려고 한 거야. 그래서 여호와가 아브라함을 두고 말한 것을 그에게 이루어 주려 한 거야.”	For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
20	여호와께서 말씀하셨다. “소돔과 고모라에서 나오는 울부짖음이 엄청나구나. 그들의 죄가 매우 무겁구나.	And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
21	내가 내려가 봐야겠어. 내게 다다른 울부짖음처럼 그들이 파괴를 일삼은 것인지 그렇지 않은지 알아봐야겠어.”	I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
22	그 사람들이 거기서 계속 나아가 소돔으로 향했다. 아브라함은 여전히 여호와 앞에 서 있었다.	And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.
23	아브라함이 다가가서 여쭈었다. “의인도 악인과 함께 없애 버리시려는지요?	And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24	어쩌면 그 도시에 의인 50명이 있을 텐데, 그래도 없애 버리실 것인지요? 그 도시에 있는 의인 50명을 생각해서라도 그곳을 용서해 주지 않으실 것인지요?	Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
25	주님께는 있을 수 없는 일입니다. 이런 일을 하려 하시다니요. 의인을 악인과 함께 죽여 의인이나 악인이나 마찬가지가 되게 하시다니요! 주님께는 있을 수 없는 일입니다! 온 땅의 재판관께서 옳게 처리하지 않으실 것인지요?”	That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26	여호와께서 대답하셨다. “내가 의인 50명을 소돔에서, 그 도시 가운데서 찾아내면, 그들 때문에라도 그곳을 다 용서해 주마.”	And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27	아브라함이 그 말씀을 받아 아뢰었다. “아, 보십시오, 저는 땅 부스러기와 먼지에 지나지 않습니다만, 주님께 감히 말씀드리겠습니다.	And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28	어쩌면 의인 50명에서 5명이 모자랄지도 모르는데요. 그 5명 때문에 온 도시를 무너뜨리실 것인지요?” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “아니야, 내가 거기서 45명이라도 찾아내면 무너뜨리지 않으마.”	Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29	아브라함이 다시 여호와께 여쭈었다. “어쩌면 거기에 40명밖에 없을지도 모르는데요.” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “그 40명을 위해서라도 그렇게 하지 않으마.”	And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
30	아브라함이 아뢰었다. “부디 주님이 노여워하지 않으시기 바라며 말씀드립니다. 어쩌면 거기에 30명밖에 없을지도 모르는데요.” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “내가 거기서 30명이라도 찾아내면, 무너뜨리지 않으마.”	And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31	아브라함이 아뢰었다. “아, 보십시오, 주님께 감히 말씀드리겠습니다. 어쩌면 거기에 20명밖에 없을지도 모르는데요.” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “그 20명을 위해서라도 무너뜨리지 않으마.”	And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.
32	아브라함이 아뢰었다. “부디 주님이 노여워하지 않으시기 바라며, 이번만 더 말씀드립니다. 어쩌면 거기에 10명밖에 없을지도 모르는데요.” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “그 10명 때문에라도 무너뜨리지 않으마.”	And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
33	여호와께서는 아브라함에게 말씀을 다 하신 뒤에 떠나셨다. 아브라함은 자기가 있던 곳으로 돌아왔다.	And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
