1	알맞은 시기와 하나님의 선물 “무엇에든 알맞은 시기가 있지요. 하늘 아래에서 일어나는 일마다 때가 있고요.	To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2	낳을 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있지요. 심을 때가 있고 심은 것을 뽑을 때가 있고요.	A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3	죽일 때가 있고 치료할 때가 있지요. 허물 때가 있고 세울 때가 있고요.	A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4	울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있지요. 슬피 흐느낄 때가 있고 즐거이 뛰놀 때가 있고요.	A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5	돌 던져 버릴 때가 있고 돌 모을 때가 있지요. 안을 때가 있고 안는 일을 피할 때가 있고요.	A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6	찾아보는 때가 있고 잃은 것으로 여길 때가 있지요. 보존할 때가 있고 내던질 때가 있고요.	A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7	찢을 때가 있고 꿰맬 때가 있지요. 침묵할 때가 있고 말할 때가 있고요.	A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8	사랑할 때가 있고 미워할 때가 있지요. 전쟁할 때가 있고 평화로울 때가 있고요.	A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9	일하는 사람이 수고하면서 얻는 유익이 무엇이란 말인가요?	What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10	내가 살펴보았어요, 하나님이 열심히 살라고 사람에게 맡겨 주신 일을요.	I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11	하나님은 모든 것을 때맞추어 알맞게 만드셨지요. 그뿐만 아니라 사람에게는 영원까지도 생각하게 하셨지요. 그러나 하나님이 하신 일을 사람이 처음부터 끝까지 깨닫지는 못하게 하셨지요.	He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12	나는 알았어요, 사는 동안 기뻐하며 즐기는 것 말고는 사람에게 좋은 것이 없다는 것을요.	I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13	또한 사람마다 먹고 마시며 온갖 수고 가운데 보람을 느끼는 것이 하나님의 선물이지요.	And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
14	나는 알았어요, 하나님이 하시는 일은 모두 영원하리라는 것을요. 거기에 더할 수도 없고 뺄 수도 없지요. 하나님이 하시는 일을 보고 사람은 그분을 두려워하지요.	I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
15	지금 일어나는 일은 이미 있었던 일이고, 앞으로 일어날 일 역시 이미 있었던 일이지요. 하나님은 사라져 간 것을 찾으시지요.”	That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
16	공의롭지 않은 세상 “또다시 내가 해 아래에서 보았어요, 재판하는 곳 거기에 불의가 있는 것을요. 공의를 세우는 곳 거기에도 불의가 있었어요.	And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
17	내가 마음속으로 말했어요. ‘의인과 악인을 하나님이 판가름하실 거야. 일마다 정해진 때가 있고 행동마다 정해진 것이 있게 마련이지.’	I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18	내가 마음속으로 말했어요. ‘사람들의 경우, 하나님이 그들에게 시련을 주시는 거야. 그래서 그들이 짐승과 다름없다는 것을 알려 주시는 거야.	I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19	사람의 운명과 짐승의 운명이 똑같아서, 짐승이 죽는 것처럼 사람도 죽는 거야. 둘 다 똑같이 숨을 쉬고, 사람이 짐승보다 나을 것이 없지. 모든 것이 허무한 거야.	For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20	둘 다 같은 곳을 향해 가는 거야. 둘 다 먼지에서 나왔고 다시 먼지가 되는 거야.	All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21	누가 알 수 있을까, 사람의 생기가 위로 올라가고 짐승의 생기는 아래로 곧 땅으로 내려갈는지를?’	Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22	그래서 내가 깨달았어요, 사람이 기쁘게 자신의 일 하는 것보다 더 좋은 게 없다는 것을요. 이것이 사람에게 주어진 몫이거든요. 누가 사람을 데리고 돌아와 보여 주겠어요? 그 사람이 떠난 다음에 무슨 일이 있을지를요!”	Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
