1	예수님이 넘겨져 붙잡히시다 이런 말씀을 하시고 예수님은 제자들과 함께 나가셔서 기드론 마른시내 건너편으로 가셨다. 거기에는 뜰이 있었다. 예수님과 그분의 제자들이 그 안으로 들어가셨다.	When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2	유다, 곧 예수님을 넘겨줄 사람도 그곳을 알고 있었다. 예수님이 그곳에서 제자들과 함께 자주 모이셨기 때문이다.	And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3	그래서 유다는 로마 부대 병사들과, 대제사장들과 바리새파 사람들에게 딸린 아랫사람들을 데리고 그리로 온다. 그들은 등불과 횃불과 무기를 들고 있었다.	Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4	그래서 예수님은 자신에게 닥쳐올 모든 일을 아시고서 밖으로 나가셨다. 그리고 그들에게 말씀하신다. “당신들은 누구를 찾고 있소?”	Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5	그들이 대답했다. “나사렛 예수요.” 예수님이 그들에게 말씀하신다. 예수님을 넘겨줄 사람도 그들과 함께 서 있었다.	They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6	예수님이 그들에게 “바로 나요.” 하고 말씀하실 때, 그들은 뒤로 물러섰고 땅바닥에 쓰러졌다.	As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7	그러자 다시 예수님이 그들에게 물으셨다. “당신들은 누구를 찾고 있소?” 그들이 말했다. “나사렛 예수요.”	Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8	예수님이 대답하셨다. “바로 나라고 당신들에게 말했소. 나를 찾고 있는 것이라면, 이 사람들은 그냥 가게 두시오.”	Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
9	이렇게 해서 예수님이 ‘아버지께서 나에게 주신 사람들 가운데서 하나도 잃어버리지 않았습니다.’ 하신 말씀이 이루어지게 하셨다.	That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10	시몬 베드로는 칼을 가지고 있었는데, 그가 그 칼을 뽑아 대제사장의 종을 쳐서 오른쪽 귀를 잘라 냈다. 그 종의 이름은 말코스였다.	Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11	그러자 예수님이 베드로에게 말씀하셨다. “칼을 칼집에 꽂으세요. 아버지께서 나에게 주신 잔, 그 잔을 내가 어떻게 감히 마시지 않을 수 있겠어요?” (; ; )	Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12	대제사장 앞에 서시다 그러자 로마 부대와 그 부대장과, 또 유대아 당국의 아랫사람들이 함께 예수님을 붙잡아서 그분을 묶었다.	Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13	그리고 먼저 한나스한테로 데려갔다. 한나스는 가야바의 장인이었던 것이다. 가야바는 그해의 대제사장이었다.	And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14	가야바는 한 사람이 백성을 위해 죽는 것이 이득이라고 유대아 사람들에게 조언해 주었던 사람이다. (; ; )	Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15	베드로가 예수님과의 관계를 잡아떼다 시몬 베드로와 다른 한 제자가 예수님을 따라가고 있었다. 바로 그 다른 제자는 대제사장과 아는 사이였다. 그는 예수님과 함께 대제사장의 집 안마당으로 들어갔다.	And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16	베드로는 대문 곁 바깥에 서 있었다. 그러자 대제사장과 아는 사이인 다른 제자가 밖으로 나가 문지기 여자에게 말하고, 베드로를 데리고 들어왔다.	But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17	그러자 베드로에게 문지기 여자종이 말한다. “당신도 역시 이 사람의 제자들에 속한 건 아니겠지요?” 저 베드로가 말한다. “나는 아닙니다.”	Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.
18	종들과 유대아최고의회(공회) 아랫사람들이 숯불을 피워 놓고 서 있었다. 추웠기 때문이다. 그들은 몸을 녹이고 있었다. 베드로도 그들과 함께 서서 몸을 녹이고 있었다. (; ; )	And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19	대제사장에게 심문받으시다 대제사장이 예수님께, 예수님의 제자들에 대해서 또 예수님의 가르침에 대해서 물었다.	The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20	예수님이 대제사장에게 대답하셨다. “나 자신은 아예 터놓고 세상에 말했소. 나 자신은 늘 회당과 성전에서 가르쳤소. 모든 유대아 사람들이 모이는 곳에서 말이오. 숨어서 말한 것은 하나도 없소.	Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21	왜 나에게 물으시오? 내가 그들에게 뭐라고 말했는지, 들은 그 사람들에게 물어보시오. 보시오, 이들이 바로 내가 한 말을 알고 있소.”	Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22	예수님이 이런 말씀들을 하셨을 때, 아랫사람들 가운데 하나가 곁에 서 있다가 예수님의 뺨을 후려쳤다. 그러면서 말했다. “대제사장님께 이런 식으로 답변하는 거요?”	And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23	예수님이 그에게 대답하셨다. “내가 잘못 말했다면 잘못된 것에 대해 증거를 대시오. 잘 말한 것이면 왜 때리는 것이오?”	Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24	그러자 한나스가 예수님을 묶은 채로 대제사장 가야바한테 보냈다. (; ; )	Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25	베드로가 다시 한번 예수님과의 관계를 잡아떼다 그런데 시몬 베드로는 서서 몸을 녹이고 있었다. 그때 그들이 베드로에게 말했다. “바로 당신도 그의 제자들에 속한 건 아니겠지요?” 저 베드로는 잡아떼면서 말했다. “나는 아닙니다.”	And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26	대제사장의 종들 가운데 하나가 말한다. 그는 베드로가 귀를 잘라 냈던 사람의 친척이다. “내가 직접, 당신이 뜰에서 그와 함께 있는 것을 보았지 않소?”	One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27	그래서 다시 베드로가 아니라고 잡아뗐다. 그러자 곧 닭이 울었다. (, ; ; )	Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
28	빌라도에게 넘겨져 심문받으시다 한편 그들이 예수님을 가야바한테서 프라이토리온(총독 공관)으로 끌고 간다. 이른 아침이었다. 그들 자신은 프라이토리온(총독 공관)으로 들어가지 않았다. 더럽혀지지 않고, 넘는명절(유월절) 음식을 먹기 위해서였다.	Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
29	그래서 빌라도가 바깥으로 그들한테로 나왔다. 그리고 묻는다. “당신들은 이 사람에 대해 무슨 고발거리를 가져오는 거요?”	Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
30	그들이 대답하여 말했다. “이 사람이 나쁜 짓을 저지르고 있지 않았다면, 우리가 총독님께 그를 넘기지 않았을 겁니다.”	They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
31	그러자 빌라도가 그들에게 말했다. “여러분 자신들이 그를 잡아가서 여러분의 율법에 따라 판결하시오.” 유대아 사람들이 말했다. “우리에게는 사람을 사형시킬 권한이 전혀 없습니다!”	Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32	이렇게 해서 예수님의 말씀, 곧 어떤 죽음으로 머지않아 죽게 되실지 넌지시 말씀해 주셨던 말씀이 이루어지게 했다.	That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33	그래서 다시 빌라도가 프라이토리온(총독 공관)으로 들어가 예수님을 불러서 말했다. “바로 당신이 유대아 사람들의 임금이란 말이오?”	Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34	예수님이 대답하셨다. “당신 자신이 스스로 이것을 말하는 것이오? 아니면 다른 사람들이 나에 대해 당신에게 말해 준 것이오?”	Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35	빌라도가 대답했다. “나는 유대아 사람이 아니지 않소? 당신의 민족과 대제사장들이 당신을 나에게 넘겨주었소. 당신은 무슨 일을 한 것이오?”	Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36	예수님이 대답하셨다. “나의 나라는 이 세상에 속하지 않소. 이 세상에 나의 나라가 속했다면, 나의 아랫사람들이 싸워서 내가 유대아 사람들에게 넘겨지지 않도록 했을 것이오. 그런데 지금 나의 나라는 여기에 있지 않소.”	Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37	그러자 빌라도가 예수님께 말했다. “그러면 하여튼 바로 당신이 임금이란 말이오?” 예수님이 대답하셨다. “내가 임금이라고 바로 당신이 말하고 있소. 나는 이것을 위해 태어났고, 이것을 위해 세상에 와 있소. 곧 진리를 증언하기 위해서 말이오. 진리에 속한 사람은 모두 내 목소리를 듣는다오.”	Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38	빌라도가 예수님께 말한다. “진리가 무엇이오?” (; ; ) 이런 말을 하고서 빌라도가 다시 유대아 사람들한테로 나갔다. 그리고 그들에게 말한다. “나로서는 그에게서 아무런 기소 이유를 찾지 못하겠소.	Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
39	빌라도는 예수님께 혐의가 없다고 판결하다 넘는명절(유월절)에 한 사람을 내가 여러분에게 풀어 주는 관례가 있소. 그러니 내가 여러분에게 유대아 사람들의 임금을 풀어 주면 되겠소?”	But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40	그러자 그들이 다시 “이 사람이 아니라 바르압바를!” 하고 소리쳤다. 그런데 바르압바는 반란자였다.	Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
