1	나야말로 참포도나무이고 그대들은 가지이다 “나야말로 참포도나무이고, 내 아버지는 농부입니다.	I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2	내게 붙어 있으면서도 열매를 맺지 않는 가지는 죄다 그분께서 그 가지를 잘라 버리십니다. 그리고 열매를 맺는 가지마다 그 가지를 깨끗하게 하십니다. 열매를 더 많이 맺게 하려는 것입니다.	Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3	이미 그대들은 깨끗합니다. 내가 그대들에게 해 주었던 말씀 때문입니다.	Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4	내 안에 머물러 있으세요. 그러면 나도 그대들 안에 머물러 있을 겁니다. 가지가 스스로는 열매를 맺을 수 없습니다. 포도나무 안에 머물러 있지 않으면요. 그처럼 그대들도 내 안에 머물러 있지 않으면 마찬가지입니다.	Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5	나야말로 포도나무, 그대들은 가지입니다. 누구든 내 안에 머무르는 사람 또 내가 그 안에 머무르는 사람, 이런 사람이 열매를 많이 맺습니다. 나 없이는 그대들이 아무것도 할 수 없기 때문입니다.	I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6	누구든 내 안에 머물러 있지 않으면, 가지처럼 밖에 버려져 말라 버릴 겁니다. 사람들이 그것들을 모아다가 불에 던집니다. 그러면 그것들은 타 버립니다.	If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7	그대들이 내 안에 머물러 있고 내 말이 그대들 안에 머물러 있으면, 그대들이 바라는 것을 뭐든지 달라고 하세요. 그러면 그대들에게 이루어질 겁니다.	If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8	그대들이 열매를 많이 맺고 나의 제자가 되면 이 일로 내 아버지께서 영광을 받으실 겁니다.”	Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9	사랑 안에 머물러 있으라고 하시다 “아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것처럼, 나도 역시 그대들을 사랑했어요. 나의 사랑 안에 머무르세요.	As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10	그대들이 내 계명들을 지키면 내 사랑 안에 머물러 있을 겁니다. 내가 내 아버지의 계명들을 지켜서 그분의 사랑 안에 머물러 있는 것처럼요.	If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11	이런 것들을 그대들에게 말해 준 것은 나의 기쁨이 그대들 안에 있도록 하려는 겁니다. 그래서 그대들의 기쁨이 가득하게 하려는 겁니다.	These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12	나의 계명은 이것입니다. 그대들이 서로 사랑해야 한다는 것입니다! 내가 그대들을 사랑한 것처럼요.	This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13	사람에게 이보다, 곧 친구들을 위해 자기 목숨을 내놓는 것보다 더 큰 사랑은 없습니다.	Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14	바로 내가 그대들에게 명령하는 것을 그대들이 실행하면 그대들이야말로 내 친구들입니다.	Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15	내가 더는 그대들을 종이라 부르지 않습니다. 종은 자기 주인이 뭘 하는지 알지 못하기 때문입니다. 그런데 그대들을 나는 친구라 불렀어요. 내 아버지한테 들은 것을 내가 모두 그대들에게 알려 주었기 때문입니다.	Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16	그대들이 나를 선택한 것이 아니라, 내가 그대들을 선택하여 세웠어요. 그대들이 가서 열매를 맺고 그대들의 열매가 머물러 있도록 하려는 겁니다. 그리하여 그대들이 내 이름을 내세워 아버지께 달라고 하는 것은 뭐든지 아버지께서 그대들에게 주시도록 하려는 겁니다.	Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17	이것을 그대들에게 명령합니다. 서로 사랑하세요!”	These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18	세상이 제자들을 미워할 것이라고 하시다 “세상이 그대들을 미워하거든, 그대들보다 먼저 나를 미워했다는 것을 알아 두세요.	If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19	그대들이 세상에 속해 있다면, 세상이 그대들을 자기의 것이라고 좋아할 겁니다. 그런데 그대들은 세상에 속해 있지 않아요. 오히려 바로 내가 그대들을 세상에서 선택했고, 이 때문에 세상이 그대들을 미워합니다.	If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20	바로 내가 그대들에게 한 말을 기억하세요. 종이 자기 주인보다 크지 않아요. 그들이 나를 박해하였다면, 그대들도 박해할 겁니다. 그들이 내 말을 지켰다면, 그대들의 말도 지킬 겁니다.	Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21	그러나 이런 모든 일을 그들이 내 이름 때문에 그대들에게 할 겁니다. 그들이 나를 보내신 분을 알지 못하기 때문입니다.	But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22	내가 와서 그들에게 말해 주지 않았더라면, 그들에게 죄가 없었을 겁니다. 이제는 그들이 저지른 죄에 대해 핑계할 말이 그들에게 없습니다.	If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
23	나를 미워하는 사람은 내 아버지도 미워합니다.	He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24	다른 누구도 하지 않은 일들을 내가 그들 가운데서 하지 않았더라면, 그들에게 죄가 없었을 겁니다. 그런데 지금 그들은 그 일들을 보고서도 나와 내 아버지를 미워했습니다.	If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25	그들의 율법에 적혀 있는 말씀, 곧 ‘까닭 없이 그들이 나를 미워했다.’라고 하는 말씀이 이루어지게 하려는 것입니다.	But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
26	보혜사가 오실 겁니다. 그분은 바로 내가 아버지한테서 그대들에게 보낼 분, 곧 아버지한테서 나오는 진리의 영이십니다. 그러면 그때 바로 그분이 나에 대해 증언하실 겁니다.	But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27	그대들 자신도 증언할 겁니다. 그대들이 맨 처음부터 나와 함께해 왔으니까요.”	And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
