1	칼데아 사람들이 이 도시를 불태울 것이다 요시야의 아들 시드기야가 임금으로 다스리게 되었다. 여호야김의 아들 여호야긴을 대신해서였다. 시드기야를 바빌론 임금 네부카드네자르가 유다 땅에 임금으로 세웠던 것이다.	And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
2	그러나 시드기야와 그의 신하들과 그 땅의 백성은 여호와의 말씀을 듣지 않았다. 그 말씀은 예레미야 예언자를 통해 하신 것이었다.	But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
3	시드기야 임금이 셀레먀의 아들 여후갈을 예레미야 예언자에게 보내어 말했다. 마아세야의 아들 스바냐 제사장도 같이 보냈다. “우리를 위해 여호와 우리 하나님께 기도해 주십시오.”	And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us.
4	그때 예레미야는 백성 가운데 드나들고 있었다. 사람들이 아직 그를 감옥에 가두지 않았던 것이다.	Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
5	그즈음에 파라오의 군대가 이집트에서 나왔다. 예루살렘을 에워싸고 있던 칼데아 사람들은 그 소식을 듣고서 예루살렘에서 물러갔다.	Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.
6	여호와의 말씀이 예레미야 예언자에게 내려오는 일이 일어났다.	Then came the word of the Lord unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
7	(예언자) “여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. (하나님) ‘너희는 유다 임금 곧 너희를 나에게 보내어 물어보게 한 사람에게 이렇게 말해 주어라. 「보라, 너희에게 도움이 되려고 나온 파라오의 군대가 자기들의 고향 이집트로 돌아갈 것이다.	Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
8	그러면 칼데아 사람들이 돌아와 이 도시를 공격할 것이다. 차지하고 불로 태울 것이다.」’	And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
9	(예언자) 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. (하나님) ‘너희는 스스로를 속이지 마라, 「칼데아 사람들이 우리한테서부터 반드시 떠나갈 것이다.」라고 말하면서! 그들은 떠나가지 않을 것이기 때문이다.	Thus saith the Lord; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
10	너희가 너희를 공격해 온 칼데아 군대를 다 쳐부수어 그들 가운데 칼에 찔린 사람들만 남는다고 하자. 그래도 그들이 저마다 자기 천막에서 일어나서 이 도시를 불로 태울 것이다.’”	For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
11	예레미야가 붙잡혀 갇히다 칼데아 사람들의 군대가 파라오의 군대 때문에 예루살렘에서 물러났을 때 일어난 일이다.	And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
12	예레미야가 베냐민 땅으로 가려고 예루살렘에서 나갔다. 거기서 백성 가운데서 땅을 나누는 데 함께하려 한 것이다.	Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
13	예레미야가 ‘베냐민 성문’에 이르렀을 때 일어난 일이다. 거기에 문지기가 있었는데 그의 이름이 이리야였다. 그는 셀레먀의 아들이자 하나냐의 손자였다. 그가 예레미야 예언자를 붙잡으며 말했다. “칼데아 사람들에게 당신이 넘어가려는 것이오!”	And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
14	예레미야가 말했다. “사실이 아닙니다. 내가 칼데아 사람들에게 넘어가려는 것이 아닙니다.” 그러나 이리야는 예레미야의 말을 곧이듣지 않았다. 예레미야를 붙잡아 고위 관리들에게 데려갔다.	Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
15	고위 관리들은 예레미야에게 화를 내며 그를 때렸다. 그러고는 그를 구치소로 쓰는 집, 곧 요나단 서기관의 집에 가두었다. 그 집을 사람들은 감옥으로 만들어 놓았던 것이다.	Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
16	예레미야는 둥근 지붕을 씌운 웅덩이에 들어갔다. 거기서 예레미야는 오래 머물렀다.	When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
17	그런데 시드기야 임금이 사람을 보내어 예레미야를 데려오게 했다. 임금은 왕궁에서 몰래 예레미야에게 물었다. “여호와께로부터 내려온 말씀이 있습니까?” 예레미야가 대답했다. “있습니다.” 그가 말했다. “임금님이 바빌론 임금의 손에 넘겨질 것입니다.”	Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
18	예레미야가 경비대 뜰로 옮겨 오다 그리고 예레미야가 시드기야 임금에게 말했다. “제가 임금님께 무슨 죄를 지었습니까, 임금님의 신하들과 이 백성에게도요? 임금님이 저를 감옥에 처넣으시다니요.	Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
19	여러분의 예언자들은 어디에 있습니까? 그들은 여러분에게 예언했습니다. 바빌론 임금이 여러분에게로, 또 이 땅으로 쳐들어오지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.	Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
20	이제 들어 주십시오, 저의 주인이신 임금님, 저의 탄원이 임금님 앞에 이르도록 해 주십시오. 그래서 저를 요나단 서기관의 집으로는 돌려보내지 말아 주십시오. 제가 거기서 죽지 않도록요!”	Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
21	그러자 시드기야 임금이 명령했다. 그래서 사람들이 예레미야를 경비대 뜰에 두었다. 그러고는 그에게 날마다 둥근 빵 한 덩이를 빵 굽는 사람들의 거리에서 구해다가 주었다. 도시에서 빵이 다 떨어질 때까지 그렇게 했다. 예레미야는 경비대 뜰에 머물렀다.	Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
