1	엘리야가 호렙산으로 가다 아합은 엘리야가 무슨 일을 했는지 이세벨에게 모두 이야기해 주었다. 엘리야가 예언자들을 모두 칼로 죽인 일도 이야기해 주었다.	And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2	그러자 이세벨은 엘리야에게 심부름꾼을 보내 말했다. “신들이 나한테 이렇게든 저렇게든 하고 싶은 대로 벌하시기 바란다, 내가 내일 이맘때까지 너의 목숨을 그들 가운데 한 사람 목숨처럼 만들지 않는다면!”	Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3	엘리야는 두려웠다. 일어나 살길을 찾아 떠났다. 유다에 있는 브엘세바로 갔다. 거기에다 자기 종을 남겨 두었다.	And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer–sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4	광야에서 하룻길을 걸어 들어갔다. 어느 로뎀나무로 가서 그 아래에 앉았다. 그는 목숨을 거두어 가 달라고 했다. 이렇게 말했다. “이제 됐습니다, 여호와여, 내 목숨을 가져가 주세요. 내가 조상들보다 나을 건 아무것도 없으니까요.”	But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5	그는 로뎀나무 아래에 누워 잠이 들었다. 그런데, 보라, 천사가 그를 건드리고 있는 것이 아닌가? 천사는 그에게 말했다. “일어나세요. 음식 좀 드세요.”	And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6	눈을 떠 보니 머리맡에 숯불에 구운 과자와 물병이 있었다. 먹고 마신 다음 다시 누웠다.	And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7	여호와의 천사가 다시 두 번째로 그를 건드리며 말했다. “일어나세요. 음식 좀 드세요. 갈 길이 너무 멀어요.”	And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8	그는 일어나 먹고 마셨다. 그러고는 먹은 것에 힘입어 40일 밤낮을 걸어 하나님의 산 호렙까지 갔다.	And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9	거기서 동굴로 들어가 그곳에서 밤을 보냈다. 그때 여호와께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “여기서 뭘 하고 있느냐, 엘리야?”	And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10	그가 대답했다. “저는 여호와 전능하신 하나님을 정말 뜨겁게 섬겼습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 주님과 했던 언약을 저버렸고, 주님의 제단을 헐었습니다. 주님의 예언자들을 칼로 죽였습니다. 저만 혼자 남았습니다. 그런데 그들이 저를 찾아 목숨을 빼앗으려 합니다.”	And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11	그러자 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. “나가거라. 산에서 여호와 앞에 서 있어라!” 보라, 여호와께서 지나가신다. 크고 거센 바람이 여호와 앞에서 산을 찢고 바위를 깨뜨렸다. 그 바람 가운데 여호와는 계시지 않았다. 바람이 불고 나서 지진이 있었다. 지진 가운데 여호와는 계시지 않았다.	And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12	지진이 있은 뒤에 불이 났다. 불속에 여호와는 계시지 않았다. 불이 난 다음 가느다랗게 속삭이는 소리가 들렸다.	And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13	엘리야는 소리를 듣고 겉옷으로 얼굴을 가리고 나왔다. 동굴 어귀에 섰다. 보라, 그에게 소리가 들린다. “여기서 뭘 하고 있느냐, 엘리야?”	And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14	그가 대답했다. “저는 여호와 전능하신 하나님을 정말 뜨겁게 섬겼습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 주님과 했던 언약을 저버렸고, 주님의 제단을 헐었습니다. 주님의 예언자들을 칼로 죽였습니다. 저만 혼자 남았습니다. 그런데 그들이 저를 찾아 목숨을 빼앗으려 합니다.”	And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15	여호와께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “네가 왔던 길로 돌아가 광야를 지나 다마스쿠스로 가거라. 거기에 가거든 하사엘에게 기름을 부어서 시리아를 다스리는 임금으로 세워라.	And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16	또 님시의 아들 예후에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘을 다스리는 임금으로 세워라. 또 아벨므홀라 출신 사밧의 아들 엘리사에게 기름을 부어 너를 이을 예언자로 세워라.	And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel–meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17	하사엘의 칼에서 벗어난 사람은 예후가 죽일 것이다. 예후의 칼에서 벗어난 사람은 엘리사가 죽일 것이다.	And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18	그러나 이스라엘에 7,000명을 남겨 두겠다. 모두 바알에게 무릎 꿇지 않은 사람이다. 모두 그에게 입 맞추지 않은 사람이다.”	Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
19	엘리사가 엘리야를 따르다 엘리야는 거기서 떠났다. 가다가 사밧의 아들 엘리사와 마주쳤다. 그는 열두 쌍의 소를 앞세우고 밭을 갈고 있었는데, 자기는 열두 번째 쌍과 함께 있었다. 엘리야는 그의 곁을 지나가며 자기 겉옷을 그에게 던졌다.	So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20	그러자 엘리사가 소를 버리고 엘리야를 뒤따라 달려와 말했다. “아버지와 어머니에게 마지막 인사를 드린 다음 선생님을 따라가겠습니다.” 엘리야가 그에게 말했다. “돌아가게. 내가 자네한테 무슨 일을 했단 말인가?”	And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21	엘리사는 그를 떠나 돌아갔다. 소 한 쌍을 가져다가 제물로 드렸다. 소의 장비를 태운 불로 그 고기를 삶아 백성에게 나눠 주어 먹게 했다. 그러고는 일어나 엘리야를 따라가서 그를 섬겼다.	And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
